General Associate - Research Project Coordinator

Department:

The B2G Community Computing Learning Centers Program (B2G Program) within the IS department empowers community leaders and members with digital and tech training to reduce educational, health, and financial disparities in their neighborhoods. By connecting community leaders with university students, faculty, and local organizations, we create sustainable digital learning ecosystems that prepare community members for the digital economy. University students gain hands-on experience developing critical professional skills—including public speaking, active listening, providing positive feedback, teaching, translational research, and classroom management—while building meaningful partnerships that transform lives and strengthen communities.

Responsibilities:

This is a part-time temporary/Contingent I position working approximately 11 - 19 hours per week. The Research Project Coordinator/General Associate coordinates mentoring, teaching, and advocacy services to community leaders in public and subsidized housing through on-site, remote, and on-campus work. The Research Project Coordinator/General Associate also serves as a critical connector for the implementation of education research on-site and with community partners within and surrounding the community. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Manage program operations and communications, including scheduling coordination, website maintenance, survey implementation, and marketing activities that bridge community and tech narratives
  • Provide community-based mentoring and advocacy to promote high-quality, life-long learning in computing, while maintaining a positive and engaging classroom environment
  • Facilitate goal planning, achievement tracking, and documentation of engagement efforts with the local community, community members, and program activities
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local organizations to coordinate activities, support community needs, and represent the program at relevant meetings and conferences
  • Manage program operations and communications, including scheduling coordination, website maintenance, survey implementation, and marketing activities that bridge community and tech narratives
  • Contribute to program development and sustainability of the program through grant writing, publications, training participation, and team collaboration

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in a STEM, Social Work, Psychology, or STEM Education field.
  • One year of experience in management of employees or volunteers
  • One year of experience in outreach with individuals from low-income communities or related area.

Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis, with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. Note: Position requires travel to both UMBC and Annapolis, Maryland. Must have reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong desire to empower and empathize with people from low-income communities supported by experience working or volunteering for an organization, institution, or company that works with this population, or by personally having an active and strong commitment to recognizing and dismantling discriminatory practices in the workplace
  • Excellent writing and communication skills with branding, marketing, and/or grant writing experience
  • Experience with social entrepreneurship or business administration
  • Experience with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Canva, Cricut, Customer Relations Management (CRM)/database, or other similar software
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus

Salary:

Hourly Salary Range: Minimum: $24/hour to Maximum: $29/hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience. *The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.*

Hours:

Part-time - Approximately 11-19 hours per week Desired schedule (some flexibility may be available): Monday 10:30-noon, Wednesday 9am-2pm & Thursday 9am-2pm plus preparation hours

Type:

Grant Funded, Contingent I This is a temporary Contingent I part-time position with the possibility of extension. The initial contract is expected to start soon and is set to possibly conclude on June 30, 2026.
