General Maintenance Worker
To provide general custodial activities under general supervision for all state-owned structures, land and state-maintained structures and grounds. Duties are performed according to regularly assigned schedules with priority given to specific areas/locations. Activities may include light maintenance, operation of equipment as needed, routine cleaning and housekeeping, grounds keeping, special maintenance and repair activities, special events, and other related work as required to maintain a pleasant, healthful, aesthetic, and secure environment.
Knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents, and equipment. Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely. Knowledge of methods, tools, and power equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs. Physical health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions. Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions. Ability to perform assigned tasks with limited work direction. Ability to keep simple records.
Preferred Qualification: State of Minnesota boilers license. Forklift certification.
Other Requirements: Ability to move and/or transport items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to maintain an active, valid, and applicable Class D (basic) driver’s license. Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty and contractors. Ability to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions.
Salary Range: $20.51 - $25.43 per hour
Work Shift: Tuesday - Friday 2:00pm - 10:30pm; Saturday 7:00am - 3:30pm
