About the Opportunity
Midwest Precision is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead our precision CNC manufacturing business serving aerospace, military, and defense customers.
Strong people management experience is essential. We are looking for a leader who develops managers and supervisors, communicates clear expectations, addresses performance concerns, and builds an engaged, accountable team.
This position oversees business performance, daily operations, financial results, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate combines manufacturing expertise with a visible, hands-on leadership style and a proven ability to bring departments together.
What You’ll Do
Lead and Develop People
Coach and develop managers and supervisors across production, engineering, quality, supply chain, and other business functions.
Set clear goals and hold leaders accountable for performance, attendance, training, productivity, and follow-through.
Partner with Human Resources on hiring, workforce planning, employee relations, performance management, and succession planning.
Address employee concerns, conflict, and performance issues fairly and promptly.
Build leadership capability through regular feedback, coaching, and development.
Maintain a consistent presence on the production floor and support communication across both shifts.
Promote teamwork, employee engagement, and a respectful workplace.
Drive Manufacturing Performance
Lead daily operations to achieve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and profitability goals.
Align staffing, production schedules, equipment capacity, materials, tooling, and engineering support.
Resolve production bottlenecks and improve coordination between departments.
Monitor on-time delivery, labor efficiency, overtime, scrap, rework, and equipment utilization.
Drive continuous improvement in CNC machining processes, workflow, and cost control.
Support equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, and capital planning.
Strengthen Quality and Customer Relationships
Reinforce disciplined processes that support AS9100, ISO, applicable ITAR requirements, and customer specifications.
Partner with Quality and Engineering on corrective actions and prevention of recurring issues.
Support audit readiness, traceability, and accurate documentation.
Build strong customer relationships and lead resolution of escalated quality or delivery concerns.
Work with Sales and Account Management to align customer commitments with operational capabilities.
Manage Business Results
Own site financial performance, including budgets, operating costs, and profitability.
Review financial and operational results and implement plans to address performance gaps.
Manage labor, overtime, materials, and other operating expenses.
Translate company strategy into practical goals and priorities.
Report business performance, risks, and improvement opportunities to executive leadership.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
Significant manufacturing leadership experience with responsibility for multiple departments.
Proven success managing people, developing leaders, and creating consistent accountability.
Experience in aerospace, military, defense, or another highly regulated precision manufacturing environment.
Strong working knowledge of CNC machining, production planning, and capacity management.
Experience managing budgets and using financial and operational data to make decisions.
Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO quality systems and applicable export-control requirements.
Experience using ERP systems and manufacturing performance metrics.
Strong communication, conflict-resolution, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, manufacturing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Preferred Experience
Previous General Manager, Plant Manager, or Director of Operations experience in precision CNC manufacturing.
Direct responsibility for profit and loss.
Demonstrated improvements in delivery, productivity, quality, and employee retention.
Experience with Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and aerospace or defense customer audits.
Work Environment
This is an onsite leadership position with regular time spent in both office and manufacturing areas. Availability to support both shifts and respond to operational needs is required.
