This role will also ensure the Facility is executing standard lab procedures and analyses to deliver results in a timely manner, including sample preparation and Illumina library preparation, as well as assisting with custom and R&D experiments to improve current genomics profiling services and launch new services.

The Project Coordinator acts under the general direction of the Director and other senior staff in the Genomics Facility. This role requires an intellectually independent, highly organized, detail-oriented project coordinator who enjoys multi-tasking to coordinate both internal workflows as well as technological consulting with customers with a variety of experience with genomics technologies. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for detailed record-keeping, including use of an electronic laboratory information management system (LIMS) for sample and metadata tracking and billing purposes, as well as some use of high performance computing servers for data analysis and distribution, and generation of reports and summaries in support of services for a variety of genomics applications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, organize, plan, and schedule lab processes for active projects, including sample barcoding and pooling for Illumina sequencing
  • Manage complete workflows for different genomics applications in order to provide high quality results in a timely manner, including liaising with other staff in the Facility who are handling components of the workflow
  • Develop and assess quality control checks at multiple steps in workflows for different genomics applications
  • Track progress through data analysis pipelines and assist with data management tasks
  • Track customer and sample inventories, including contributing to the development and maintenance of electronic record-keeping systems
  • Provide technological customer support, including educating customers about genomics applications, Genomics Facility services, and sample requirements in both formal and informal formats
  • Track and update services rendered, and submit requests for customer billing
  • Assist with the planning and execution of custom and R&D projects including experiments to troubleshoot or improve existing services as well as pilot testing and optimization prior to launching new services
  • Represent the Genomics Facility at meetings and conferences
