Job Summary:
The Geological Sciences Researcher II oversees geological science research projects and assumes responsibility for the day-to-day activity supporting project. Makes significant contributions to the planning and design of research and creative projects. Assists in short- and long-term planning and project goals. May assist with research and creative proposals and dissemination of project findings.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of geological sciences or closely related research experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of geological sciences or closely related research experience; OR doctoral degree and some geological sciences or closely related research experience. Post-Baccalaureate degree is highly preferred (Master’s degree or higher).
Skills and Knowledge:
Knowledge of scientific computing, data assimilation, and machine learning frameworks. Proficiency in writing clean, efficient, and well-documented code. Mathematics including linear algebra and partial differential equations. Ability to implement software solutions based on technical specifications provided by researchers. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Geology, Geography, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or a related quantitative field. Expertise in modeling geophysical systems. Strong proficiency in machine learning libraries such as PyTorch. Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative software development.
