Offer Description
Employer Description
The French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) is an international scientific research institution that helps strengthen societal resilience in the face of global disruptions. Present in over 50 countries across Africa, Latin America, Asia, the Pacific, mainland France, and the French Overseas Territories, IRD’s research activities address key priorities: climate change mitigation and adaptation, poverty and inequality reduction, biodiversity preservation, healthcare access, and consideration of social dynamics. Research questions are developed in collaboration with local stakeholders and communities. Teams combine diverse perspectives, disciplines, and knowledge through long-term partnerships to build robust, high-impact solutions. IRD advocates for research that benefits the greatest number, sharing project results and applying science to action. It supports the transformation of societies toward fairer and more sustainable social, economic, and ecological models.
The team you will join
You will join the Data Terra Research Infrastructure (RI) and be attached to the Data Terra Research Support Unit (UAR) (263IRD, 2023CNRS, 2511INRAE), one of its support and research structures. The RI consists of 5 data and service hubs covering the five components of the Earth system:
- Solid Earth (ForM@Ter)
- Oceans (ODATIS)
- Continental Surfaces (THEIA)
- Atmosphere (AERIS)
- Biodiversity (PNDB)
It also includes cross-cutting systems for spatial data access, scientific outreach, and collective expertise for FAIR data and services. Through its ODATIS hub (Oceans), Data Terra RI is involved in several targeted projects (TPs) of the PEPR BRIDGES program, particularly the "TRANSVERSE" TP.
Under the responsibility of the co-leaders of this TP, your work will be supervised by the Director of the ODATIS hub at Data Terra RI. In coordination with other BRIDGES TPs, you will implement all data management and valorization activities for BRIDGES.
The work will be carried out in close collaboration with Ifremer (hosting part of the ODATIS technical architecture, Sextant), OSU-Réunion (hosting the BRIDGES PEPR "INFORMATION" catalog) and all Data Terra RI teams
An attractive mission
Under the responsibility of the ODATIS Ocean Hub Director, your mission will be to develop a global vision of data-related activities in BRIDGES and act as a reference point for program stakeholders.
Your Responsibilities will include:
Coordination of BRIDGES PEPR Data Management Activities
- Serve as the BRIDGES "Data" Referent: assist in data formatting, standardization, setting up geographic databases, and updating Data Management Plans (DMPs).
- Ensure BRIDGES data management complies with FAIR principles and Open Science.
- Implement and administer the BRIDGES data infrastructure (based on tools deployed by ODATIS-Data Terra RI) and develop data services.
- Create and manage the metadata catalog for BRIDGES data and products (common metadata model for all TPs, DOI assignment).
- Develop a dynamic mapping portal for multi-source, multi-parameter data (configure web services based on standardized protocols, create cartographic contexts, online atlases, and integrate observation data (TP2), modeling data (TP3), cartographic products (TP4), and spatial indicators (TP5)).
Coordination of Inter-TP Data Valorization Activities
- Develop dashboards, monitoring tools, and results in the form of graphs, tables, static/dynamic maps, time series, representing raw or processed data.
- Capacity Building
- Support data user and producer communities.
- Train users on BRIDGES tools.
- Organize workshops (e.g., hackathons) to familiarize users with BRIDGES data and BRIDGES summer schools.
Contribution to Data Terra RI Dynamics in the Indian Ocean
- Participate in working groups on FAIR data management for related national projects (e.g., PIA3 Gaia Data).
- Engage in the Data Terra RI Overseas Working Group and contribute to the RI’s initiatives in the Indian Ocean (mesocenter project, thematic regional animation under development, establishment of a Data Terra "branch").
Your Future Team
You will join the transverse BRIDGES PEPR team, supporting targeted projects and program governance. You will work in a multi-institutional, multi-site environment in collaboration with all BRIDGES teams.
In support of scientific leaders, you will also work closely with the OSU-Réunion to establish a multi-thematic Data and Services Center (partly derived from PEPR), Regional stakeholders for an ART mediation system and University of Réunion, CNRS, IRD, Ifremer, and the Regional Government to develop the MesoDataOI mesocenter project.
