Geospatial Research Assistant (Wharton Impact)
Wharton's Impact, Value, and Sustainable Business Initiative is seeking Graduate-Level Research Assistants with strong data science skills and interest in the impacts of natural, social, and human capital on business risk, opportunity, and sustainability. This is a part-time role (~15 hours/week) during the academic year, with potential for extension.
Responsibilities may include:
- Constructing and maintaining large datasets on firm- and country-level ESG risks and events.
- Performing spatial data analysis and statistical modeling for sentiment and economic data over time and places.
- Creating maps and other visualizations to showcase data by region.
Required skills and interests:
- Data Management and Analysis: Proficiency in Python, R, Stata, or similar for statistical analysis; advanced skills in data integration, including fuzzy matching.
- Spatial Data: Familiarity with Coordinate Reference Systems and location file processing.
- Geospatial Analysis Tools: Experience with ArcGIS, QGIS, or equivalents; familiarity with R packages (e.g., sf, terra) or Python packages (e.g., geopandas, rasterio).
- Data Visualization: Experience creating maps, heatmaps, and bubble charts.
- Interest in ESG: Strong passion for Environmental, Social, and Governance challenges.
