Job Duties: The Division of Geriatrics & Gerontology, Department of Medicine, UW School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking applicants for a Geriatrics Clinician and Skilled Nursing Facility Physician. The successful candidate will join a world-class institution that encourages, values and supports interdisciplinary basic, clinical and population health research, and attracts scholars and students from around the world.

The faculty member will provide primary care in the ambulatory and skilled nursing facility setting. Primary care is provided to older adult patients in one or more outpatient UW Health geriatric clinics working with a geriatric clinical care team including other providers. The faculty member will also provide primary care visits at various skilled nursing facilities. The candidate will provide clinical teaching to medical students, residents, and fellows.

Madison is the state's capital city with a population of over 252,000, and offers an ideal combination of natural beauty, stimulating cultural events, outstanding schools and outdoor recreation.

This position is full or part time, 60%-100%. This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location. This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and repeated every four years. Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles: Clinical Professor or Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Assistant Professor. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist. Candidates who demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, will be given first consideration.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Ambulatory Primary Care (60-80% FTE):

  • Provide primary care to a geriatric patient population at one or both of our two clinical primary care locations in and around Madison. Panel size will be prorated to your clinical FTE devoted toward primary care.
  • Offer education and evaluation to medical students, residents, fellows, and others in the clinic setting.
  • Provide occasional topical lectures (usually one or two a year) given to learners and interested faculty in our Geriatric Didactic Series and Grand Rounds discussions.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff in the development of new patient care programs with a focus on access to care and interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Take after-hours call for Geriatrics primary care patients. This can almost universally be handled all over the phone. Faculty take 3 or 4 weeks per year, in 1 week increments.
  • Position responsibilities for patient care include predominantly ambulatory primary care with some skilled facility care for older adult patients at UW Health approved locations. Responsibilities will also include clinical teaching of medical students, residents and fellows, and other service appropriate to the position.

Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) (20-40%):

  • Establish and maintain a relationship with a skilled nursing facility (SNF) panel of at least 60 long term care residents per 0.2 FTE appointment.
  • Direct and coordinate provision of the essential elements of health care services for the panel.
  • Maintain the electronic health record for your patient panel.
  • Provide 8-10 hours of total SNF care time per week per 0.2 FTE.
  • 3-5 SNF residents per half day.
  • Each 0.2 FTE position will cover 4-5 facilities, rounding at least once per month at each site.

Compensation: Negotiable, 12 months. Required Qualifications:

  • WI medical license by start date of position.
  • ABIM or ABFM Board-certified or board eligible in geriatrics by start date of position.
  • Completion of a US internal medicine or family medicine residency and fellowship trained in geriatrics by the start date of the position. Fellows are welcome to apply.

Preferred Qualifications: For an appointment at Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor rank on CT Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CT Track.

Education: MD or DO, or equivalent is required.
