About Us

Situated in the historic “city of dreaming spires,” the University of Oxford has been ranked the world’s leading university for nine consecutive years. Blending centuries of tradition with world-changing innovation, Oxford offers an inspiring environment where excellence thrives. You will contribute to research and initiatives that address global challenges while joining a diverse and inclusive community that supports wellbeing, development, and ambition.

The Graduate Admissions and Recruitment (GAR) Office sits within the University’s Academic Administration Division. Oxford is home to over 14,000 graduate students, who make up more than half of the full-time student population. Nearly two thirds are international students from around 140 countries, reflecting Oxford’s global reach. GAR plays a central role in developing, coordinating, and evaluating graduate access and widening participation initiatives for both UK and international students.

What We Offer

Working at the University of Oxford provides a range of benefits, including:

  • 38 days of annual leave (inclusive of public holidays), with options to purchase additional leave
  • One of the most generous family leave schemes in UK higher education
  • Support for hybrid and flexible working
  • An excellent contributory pension scheme
  • Affordable and sustainable commuting options, including cycle loans and discounted travel
  • Access to a wide range of social, cultural, and sporting activities

About the Role

This role is particularly suited to current PhD/DPhil students with experience of running research projects, including consultation-based work, and familiarity with the academic and non-academic experiences of graduate students from underrepresented and/or disadvantaged backgrounds.

The consultants will work closely with the Graduate Admissions and Recruitment Office to gather evidence, engage with students and stakeholders, and produce findings and initial recommendations. The focus will be primarily on non-academic support for graduate students, though other areas may also be explored. The outputs will help inform the University’s future planning and action in this area.

We are seeking two individuals with relevant knowledge and experience who can manage their own research, apply or adapt appropriate methodologies, and communicate findings clearly. The role will require strong written and verbal communication skills, including the production of reports and presentations.

About You

  • An undergraduate degree
  • Strong understanding of the postgraduate student experience at Oxford, particularly for students from underrepresented and/or disadvantaged backgrounds

  • Experience analysing qualitative and quantitative data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and students at all levels
  • Excellent organisational skills and capacity to manage workload independently
  • A clear commitment to inclusion, equality, diversity, and improving the student experience
