Job Description
Basic Requirements:
- Must be a Christian who is a member of a church that holds Jesus Christ to be their Lord and Savior, and who holds solely the Old Testament and the New Testament as sacred Scriptures.
General Objectives:
Assists the General Counsel by managing a variety of legal tasks across campus. Serves as a liaison between university departments and outside counsel. Facilitates contract review and immigration cases. Oversees the daily operational needs of the General Counsel department in an administrative and research capacities.
This position reports directly to the General Counsel.
Qualifications:
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong proofreading and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient skills and understanding of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
- Manages competing demands to meet deadlines.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Conducts various research initiatives and compliance checks across campus departments.
- Monitor and develop written summaries of anticipated and endorsed legislation, regulations, court decisions, industry standards, and other relevant publications to the General Counsel. Understand and discern which legal decisions could impact higher education institutions and help develop a response plan for the university.
- Oversees the immigration process for international full-time faculty and staff. Keeps track of deadlines, communicates with outside immigration counsel, helps prepare immigration paperwork, and files and save documents accordingly.
- Manages contract management software, Concord. Manages licenses, approval workflows, contract repository, and trains new users on the software.
- Assists in contract negotiations by proof-reading, confirming edits are in contracts, and facilitating internal and external communications in multi-party negotiations.
- Serves on campus committees upon request.
- Assist the General Counsel with policy drafting, review, and implementation.
- Conduct special research projects.
- Fields telephone calls and serve as primary contact for internal administrative legal support. Relay legal inquires to General Counsel.
- Keeps proper records of documents by either filing (electronically or hardcopies) or scanning based on instruction from the General Counsel.
- Manages Legal Department SharePoint to ensure proper storage and retention of documents.
- Communicates with outside counsel.
- Drafts and sends letters, memos, and emails on behalf of General Counsel at General Counsel’s approval or direction.
- Proofreads documents.
- Process all purchase orders, reimbursements, and invoices for the General Counsel department.
- Coordinates meetings, calls, and events on behalf of the General Counsel.
- Maintains confidentiality for all sensitive and private matters.
- Helps oversee General Counsel budget.
- Completes special projects upon request.
