Graduate ASEAN and Indo-Pacific Studies Initiative (AIPSI) Coordinator (Student)
Summary
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Indo-Pacific Studies Initiative (AIPSI) Student Coordinator contributes to the daily work of AIPSI and is responsible for administrative duties, event support, and special projects. This position is part-time (10 hours per week) and is directly supervised by the AIPSI Director, with guidance also provided by the AIPSI Chair. The incumbent will be largely responsible for managing their own time, prioritizing their tasks as they see fit, while keeping in mind the needs of the Initiative.
Essential Functions:
- Administer AIPSI listservs and email, other data management and analysis, as requested.
- Plan and coordinate events.
- Conduct outreach to U.S. government agencies, foreign embassies, and think tanks/organizations engaged with Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific, such as the Wilson Center, CSIS, and Brookings Institute, staying abreast of their interests and planned activities and looking for opportunities for AIPSI to engage.
- Liaise with students (individually and student organizations) engaged on Southeast Asia, supporting AIPSI as a convening initiative for AU undergrad and graduate students.
- Maintain the program’s online presence on websites and social media.
- Prepare the program’s annual report of activities.
- Represent AIPSI as requested.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Part-time. Student. 10 hours per week.
Salary Range:
$17.95 to $18.50/hour (commensurate with experience).
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Strong time-management and demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.
- Outstanding organizational ability with the ability to proactively problem-solve.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and manage deadlines with minimal direct supervision.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer Proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, data presentation).
- Current Graduate student at AU.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience with LinkedIn, Twitter, Canva, Canvas, and/or AU websites.
- High computer/technical proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, PowerPoint, and especially Excel).
- Experience in a multicultural setting.
- Demonstrated interest in Southeast Asia via coursework, professional work, or student engagement.
