Graduate Assistant - Men's & Women's Track & Field
JOB SUMMARY
Saginaw Valley State University, a NCAA Division II member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, invites applications for the position of Graduate Assistant for Track & Field. The Graduate Assistant will assist the head coach in the development, promotion, and daily operation of the Track & Field program. Responsibilities include assisting with the recruitment of prospective student-athletes, supporting the organization and administration of program activities, assisting with practice planning and implementation, and contributing to the continued success of a regionally and nationally competitive program.
Graduate Assistants are required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. During the fall and winter semesters, work hours may not exceed 24 hours per week. During the spring and summer semesters, Graduate Assistants may work up to, but not exceed, 40 hours per week.
This appointment is for a maximum of two calendar years.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to applicable university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Assist in supporting compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA policies and regulations, including student-athlete eligibility, recruiting activities, financial aid procedures, scheduling, and academic progress.
- Support efforts to promote compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations among student-athletes and athletic department personnel.
- Abide by NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and contribute positively to a culture of NCAA rules compliance.
- Assist in promoting a positive academic environment that encourages student-athletes to achieve academic success.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of practices, competitions, and related program activities.
- Provide positive support and encouragement to student-athletes while helping foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive team environment.
- Assist with community outreach and relationship-building efforts that support and enhance the program.
- Assist with the purchasing, inventory, distribution, and maintenance of uniforms and equipment.
- Assist with recruiting activities, including the identification, communication, and evaluation of prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA regulations.
- Assist with the development and implementation of off-season training and conditioning activities.
- Support fundraising initiatives and special events that benefit the program.
- Maintain appropriate communication with student-athletes and parents under the guidance of the head coach.
- Assist with the planning and coordination of banquets, fundraising activities, and other program-related events.
- Assist with coordinating team travel arrangements and logistics.
- Assist with the promotion, operation, and coordination of summer camps and clinics.
- Assist with facilities and event operations as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Events.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Athletic Administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
