The Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (OGPS) within the Medical School is looking to hire a Graduate Enrollment Manager. This position oversees all recruiting and admission activities for select graduate training programs at Michigan Medicine. The portfolio of programs includes the PhD programs in Bioinformatics, Human Genetics, Neuroscience, and Health Infrastructures in Learning Sciences (HILS) as well as the master's programs in Bioinformatics, Human Genetics, and Health Infrastructures in Learning Sciences (HILS). This role leverages the enrollment expertise and resources within OGPS to optimize the enrollment process and works closely with the graduate programs. Administrative staff and faculty leadership to ensure program-specific factors are thoughtfully considered throughout the recruitment and admissions timeline. In addition, the person in this role will analyze past and current enrollment data, in conjunction with national trends and evolving graduate student needs, to develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment plan for all programs listed above. Extensive travel is required. Working weekends and being on-call 24/7 during program interview events is required. This position reports to the Associate Director of Enrollment & Academic Services.
OGPS provides comprehensive support services to 900+ master's, doctoral, and post-baccalaureate students as well as 450+ postdoctoral fellows within the medical school. To this end, the Graduate Enrollment Manager plays an integral role in recruiting and managing the admissions lifecycle, ensuring a high-touch, competitive experience that converts top-tier applicants into committed graduate students.

60% Graduate Enrollment Services
- Exercise considerable discretion and independent judgment to analyze, organize, and report on complex information and trends.
- Make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of established responsibilities.
20% Strategic Planning & Development
- Strategically develop program priorities, comprehensive recruitment plans, communication plans, admission activities, application evaluation processes, and budget planning.
- In collaboration with graduate program (Master's/PhD) directors and OGPS leadership, ensure that institutional strategies and needs are aligned across programs, and develop mechanisms/practices that coordinate a focus on common needs.
- Work with programs to assess the right long-term staffing models and identify staff resources focused on admissions infrastructure, career services, data analysis, and marketing/communication support.
- Strategic development of all aspects of the admissions process, including working with HITS and outside vendors to develop/administer new recruitment, admissions, and evaluation software.
- Consistently evaluate and streamline admissions processes to increase efficiencies and improve the yield of a highly qualified and diverse trainee body.
20% Recruiting & Outreach
- In collaboration with the graduate program (Master's/PhD) faculty and staff, skillfully drive the integrated recruitment and admissions strategies for various trainee programs.
- Lead recruitment team composed of faculty, staff, and students, and represent Michigan Medicine graduate programs at partner institutions, national conferences, and on-campus recruitment events.
- Work with programs to identify strategies to improve the diversity of enrolled students and improve the institution's ability to offer scholarships/grants.
- Find opportunities to partner with University of Michigan programs that currently provide these services to help leverage common needs.
20% Admissions Operations & Special Events
- Manage the lifecycle of application processing, including managing the admission evaluation system, preparing applications for faculty review, tracking and communicating all admissions decisions, and administering post-admission surveys
- Manage and execute all on and off-campus recruitment events, open houses, and information sessions for relevant programs and the annual Postdoc Preview recruitment event
- Oversee all aspects of the interview process for relevant programs
20% Special Projects
- Responsible for the overall management, performance, and completion of ad hoc special projects related to the team's work.
- Apply expertise and knowledge to develop new projects based on needs and priorities.
- Work with the Associate Director of Development, Endowment for the Basic Sciences, to identify and cultivate new relationships with alumni and prospective donors.
- Act as the UM campus liaison and assess how Michigan Medicine can better leverage and integrate with campus-wide resources.
- Active member of NAGAP and BIOGAP; attends national meetings and conferences and presents when appropriate.
- Collaborate with various team members on projects.
- Achieve professional development opportunities.
- Serve on staff committees.
20% General Administration
- Serve as the admissions point of contact for the graduate programs represented.
- Responsible for communications and correspondence with potential students/learners, current students/learners, faculty, and alumni.
- Partner with the Communication Specialist to review and update program-related content on the website and marketing materials.
- Monitor budget
- Ensures timely expense tracking and reconciliation.
- Complete ad hoc administrative tasks.
- Attend staff, team, and project meetings.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned related to the position.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree and at least five (5) years of equivalent full-time work experience
- Four to six (4-6) years of relevant experience in academic program management and/or graduate student recruitment and admissions.
- Experience leading strategic development in recruitment, admissions, or student affairs.
- Willingness to travel and be on-call 24/7 during recruitment events and interview weekends.
Desired Qualifications*
- Master's degree strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of University and Rackham policies, procedures, and practices related to graduate student admissions.
- Experience with University reporting tools, such as Business Objects
- Knowledge of policies and trends affecting graduate and/or biomedical science education.
- Knowledge and experience using CollegeNet, or similar, application and evaluation tools.
