Job Description:
Summary:
The Public History Program at American University is seeking applications for a Public History Program Administrative Assistant for the 2026 - 2027 academic year. Reporting to the Senior Administrative Assistant in the Department of History and working closely with the Public History Program Director, the Administrative Assistant will play a key role in supporting the program’s operations, communications, and events.
Essential Functions:
- Maintaining website content for Public History Program.
- Managing the program’s social media channels.
- Supporting Public History Committee meetings.
- Updating alumni contact information.
- Communicating with and meeting prospective students.
- Assisting with planning and supporting program events, workshops, and activities.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Part-time.
- 15 hours per week.
Salary Range:
- $20.00 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
- Candidates must be a current MA student enrolled at American University.
- Ideal candidates will be professional, organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable interacting with students, alumni, and other stakeholders.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Strong communication and administrative skills are preferred.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
- The Administrative Assistant will work fifteen hours per week over the fall and spring semesters (approximately 30 weeks total) and earn $20.00 per hour.
- The hours are flexible during normal business hours (Monday - Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM).
