Graduate School Manager

The University of Westminster is a research-active institution committed to advancing knowledge, fostering creativity, and delivering global impact. The Graduate School serves as the central hub for doctoral education, providing an inclusive and stimulating environment in which doctoral researchers can thrive.

Under the leadership of Dr Margherita Sprio, the Graduate School is entering a transformative phase, redefining the nature and purpose of doctoral education for the twenty-first century. Our strategic vision prioritises equality, diversity, and inclusion, alongside international collaboration and innovation in research training. Through initiatives such as the Quintin Hogg Trust PhD Scholarships, the Techne AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership, and the AHRC Landscape Award, Westminster is positioning itself as a national and international leader in shaping the future of doctoral education.

The Graduate School Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing the strategic vision of the Graduate School by ensuring operational excellence and fostering an inclusive research environment. Working closely with the Head of the Graduate School, the postholder will manage core operations to deliver a seamless and supportive experience for doctoral researchers throughout their journey, from admission to completion. They will lead a dedicated team and collaborate with senior University leadership to align Graduate School priorities with Westminster’s institutional objectives. Central to the role is the enhancement of systems and processes that reflect a commitment to quality and inclusivity, alongside the promotion of a positive research culture through initiatives that strengthen researcher development, embed principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), and expand global engagement. Furthermore, the Graduate School Manager will contribute to major strategic projects, including the AHRC Landscape Award, consolidating Westminster’s position as a leader in innovative doctoral education. Success in this role requires a proactive and forward-thinking approach, underpinned by collaboration and strategic impact.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate substantial experience in postgraduate research administration or higher education management, underpinned by comprehensive knowledge of doctoral frameworks, regulatory policies, and funding landscapes. They should possess proven leadership and team management capabilities, including a track record of guiding teams through organisational change. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders across all levels of the institution. In addition, candidates must show a clear commitment to advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion, combined with an enthusiasm for innovation in research education.

Joining the University of Westminster offers an opportunity to contribute to a Graduate School that is pioneering new models of doctoral education and advancing research excellence on a global scale.
