The Babraham Institute is a charity which is world renowned for its research in life sciences to enhance lives and improve wellbeing.

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Graduate Studies Manager to lead the operational delivery and continual enhancement of the Babraham Institute’s prestigious PhD programmes. The Babraham Institute is a world-leading life sciences research institute, and as a recognised Partner Institution of the University of Cambridge, we welcome talented doctoral researchers each year, this role is central to ensuring they receive an outstanding, well‑supported research training experience.

In this varied and influential position, you will oversee the full lifecycle of our postgraduate programmes, from delivering key elements of programme implementation and quality assurance, to managing recruitment, monitoring finances, coordinating major student events, and ensuring compliance with university and funder requirements. You will work closely with the Director of Graduate Studies, support governance committees, and maintain effective relationships with funders, university partners, and internal stakeholders. The role also includes line‑managing the Graduate Studies Administrator.

A core focus of the job is ensuring an excellent student experience. You will oversee onboarding and offboarding, manage student communications, conduct exit interviews, and work with HR and mentors to provide pastoral and wellbeing support. You will help shape students’ development by coordinating skills training, analysing survey feedback, and supporting personalised career planning, ensuring our doctoral researchers are equipped for future success.

We are looking for a candidate with experience in higher education administration, ideally within postgraduate or doctoral training environments. You will bring strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and confidence working with data systems, finances, and committees. Excellent communication, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion are essential. Experience with doctoral training partnerships, research funding models, and line management would be an advantage.
