At the Grantham Institute – Climate Change and the Environment, our mission is to lead on world-class research, policy, training, and innovation that supports effective action on climate change.

We are seeking to appoint two Assistant Professor/ Associate Professors who will support this mission, in a key collaboration with an Imperial academic department. The two positions available are for:

  1. Research within the broad fields of climate change, energy, clean technology and the environment. During the initial three years, the position will be based at the Grantham Institute before formally transferring to an appropriate academic Department at Imperial. All departments at Imperial College are eligible for this scheme.
  2. Research within the themes of the Centre for Environmental Policy (CEP). During the initial three years, the position will be based at the Grantham Institute before formally transferring to the CEP.

These posts represent a significant investment in climate change and environmental research, aligning with Imperial’s Strategy: Science for Humanity.

You will broaden Imperial’s research capabilities, complementing our existing strengths. You will build on a successful programme of engagement and development at the Institute, working to inform decision-making in business and policy. You will drive forward research and collaborations across the areas of climate and environmental change and contribute to teaching on the Institute’s portfolio of training programmes. You will catalyse innovation to address the causes and effects of climate change.

During the first three years, you will be responsible for delivering a programme of activity related to your field, as agreed by the Institute and the home department.

You will be surrounded by a supportive community, dedicated to make meaningful impact.

To be successful, you will have:

  • A PhD in Climate/Environmental Science, Cleantech, Environmental Engineering, or related field or equivalent
  • A developing national/ International reputation and expertise in your field
  • Experience of preparing grant applications for submission
  • A portfolio of research publications, confirming national standing (commensurate with career stage)
  • Good leadership skills
  • A collaborative nature and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships, both internally and externally
  • Ability to communicate well, conveying ideas and concepts clearly and effectively
