Grants Manager

Under the supervision of the Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost at the School of Visual Arts (SVA), the Grant Manager will work with academic department chairs and academic support departments to prospect for, research, and prepare grant applications from a variety of funding sources to support the educational aims of the College’s undergraduate and graduate programs. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Collaborate with academic department chairs and the heads of academic support departments to identify appropriate funding opportunities from government, foundation, and corporate sources, in the furtherance of SVA’s educational mission. Work with the Provost to develop and manage a system and protocols for the process of responding to requests for assistance in preparing grant applications, managing funds awarded, and internal and external reporting requirements. Prepare, in collaboration with faculty and department chair, grant seekers, grant applications, including, but not limited to, proposal narratives, budgets, and all associated attachments, and submit to appropriate funding sources. Maintain funder relationships with current and prospective funders through communication, follow-up, and demonstrating the impact of award grants. Work with the Office of Finance to manage grant money, distribution of funds, ensure compliance with conditions/restrictions associated with various awards, and provide the necessary follow-up with funding sources to ensure appropriate use of funds and, where required, provide evidence of outcomes stated in a grant application. Provide the Provost and other stakeholders with regular reports on grant writing activity, status of grant applications, and the disposition of funds once awarded. Present to the President’s cabinet and the Board of Trustees on the aforementioned. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree required. Three (3) years or more of demonstrated experience as a grant writer in an educational or similar institution, with a proven track record of successfully securing grants. PREFERRED QUALIFICATION: Master's Degree, preferred. Experience working within a higher education or research environment is preferred. Working experience securing funding grants for academic programs, research projects, and institutional initiatives. Experience with grants management. A grant writing professional certification is preferred. Proficiency with grant databases, CRM systems, online submission portals (e.g., Grants.gov), and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of assigned practices and procedures related to grant writing. Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws to adhere to grant regulations and guidelines. Research skills to identify appropriate funding opportunities, understand funder priorities, and gather supporting data and evidence. Meticulous skill in attention to detail to ensure proposals adhere to all guidelines, instructions, and formatting requirements. Skill in written and oral communication. Skill in data analysis and problem-solving. Skill in working collaboratively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including, but not limited to, the heads of academic and academic support departments, the Office of Development, and the Office of Finance, as well as the College’s cultural and corporate partners. Ability to maintain and develop knowledge in the best practices for identifying appropriate funding sources/opportunities. Ability to craft clear, concise, and persuasive narratives tailored to the different audiences and funder requirements. Ability to work with finance teams to develop and justify project budgets within grant parameters. Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities effectively. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities. Ability to work collaboratively, be responsive to feedback, and be sensitive to deadlines. Ability to work with diverse individuals and teams to gather information, develop proposals, and manage projects. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other employees and the public. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR WORK CONDITIONS: The position is located at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) 132 West 21st Street, New York, NY 10011- in the Gramercy and Chelsea neighborhoods of NYC. Full-time, hybrid position - three (3) days onsite and two (2) days remote. While working remotely, you will be required to maintain the same hours of work as would be performed in the office; follow the department's procedures in completing assigned job tasks; and be available during the employee’s working hours via the department's established communication methods (i.e., Google chat, Slack, phone, etc.). Work schedule may vary contingent on departmental needs and to work additional hours outside of the regular work schedule, including after-hours, holidays, and weekends. Willingness to work outside designated office hours as needed for events. Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a desk or computer. Proficiency in typing, using a mouse, and handling office equipment. Ability to carry and lift objects up to 10-20 lbs., such as files or office equipment.
