Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

The Graphic Design Specialist will be in charge of developing and creating graphic design projects and content for the institution and will also assist the Community and Media Relations Office and the Institutional Advancement Division with other duties assigned. As an employee of Laredo College, you are expected to adhere to the LC Employee Handbook, the LC Local and Legal policies (www.laredo.edu) and the Vice President of Institutional Advancements (VPIA) expectations and protocols at all times. In addition, a confidentiality agreement should be signed every year on NEOED.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Designs, writes, and coordinates graphics and text that promote the image of Laredo College and its academic and community service programs through electronic, print, and computer technology such as the World Wide Web.
  2. Designs flyers, posters, digital publications, event programs, billboards, banners, and other graphic design material needed to promote and advertise Laredo College programs and events.
  3. The designs and materials created by the graphic designer(s) and team must be completed in a timely fashion.
  4. Must be able to manage deadlines effectively on all assigned projects.
  5. Assists the Community and Media Relations Director and department team with creative advertising ideas to promote the institution, different college programs, and college initiatives.
  6. Works with the Assistant Director of Graphic Design and the department team in developing effective advertising campaigns for the institution.
  7. Assists the Community and Media Relations team in promoting positive and productive internal and external communication and college branding.
  8. Assists the department in monitoring internal publications and printed materials in order to maintain design standards and branding that convey a positive image for Laredo College, programs, and events.
  9. Supports special events and projects undertaken by Laredo College and the division of Institutional Advancement.
  10. Supports the scheduling and tracking of printing and other services that support college publications, special events, and advertising. This may include scheduling, follow-up, and completion of the request.
  11. Manages and updates marquees and TV screens of both campuses.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned by the Community and Media Relations Director, Assistant Director of Graphic Design, and/or the division of Institutional Advancement in the efforts that promote the mission of Laredo College and its programs.

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • Associate degree or technical degree in graphic design, web design, video editing and/or related field. Three years of working experience in the field may be considered for the educational requirements.
  • Two to three years of experience in a position requiring intensive graphic design, web design, social media management, video editing, website maintenance, and other related duties.
  • Must have a valid Drivers License and current car insurance to travel as required. In accordance with CJ (Local) while driving on College District business, employees are required to abide by all applicable laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, policies, and procedures.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the education industry and/or higher education is preferred.
  • Industry-based credentials that support graphic design, communication, graphic design, and or related field are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Must have a professional disposition at all times.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Must be able to adapt to multiple revisions of the project at hand.
  • Strong customer service and community relations skills.
  • Ability to use personal computer and various word processing and spreadsheet software programs which includes MS Office Suite, Zoom, TEAMS, One Drive, Google Drive and the internet to promote efficiency.
  • Must be able to exercise good judgment, maintain positive media relations, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of graphic design and video editing software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Premiere Pro, wire-framing tools and CANVA.
  • Skilled in working with videos editing such as Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premier Pro, iMove, Final Cut Pro etc.
  • Ability to take completed Photoshop Designs and convert them to HTML/CSS.
  • Knowledge of social media management (Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).
  • Knowledge of the design and layout of electronic and printed materials for all programs and events (flyers, posters, banners, collaterals, logos, invitations, postcards, newsletters, newspaper ads, etc.).

Supervision Received Supervised by the Community and Media Relations Director and Assistant Director of Graphic Design.

Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment Work is performed in a standard office environment. Work inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Safety Required to work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

Special Conditions Immediate supervisor may assign other duties. May be required to work outside regular working hours, as needed. May be required to work at a different college work site or campus as needed.
