Grossing Technician
The Keck School of Medicine, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a full-time Grossing Technician to join its team.
As an active member of the surgical pathology team, the Grossing Technician will function as an active member of the anatomic pathology team and assist the Pathologists Assistants and Pathologists as necessary, performing high complexity testing and is responsible for performing duties associated with the gross examination and prosection of tissue for histological examination for both surgical and autopsy pathology.
The incumbent will:
- Receive and accession surgical pathology specimens.
- Dissect and prepare non-complex surgical tissues.
- Perform specialized procedures such as frozen sections and decalcification.
- Monitor incoming phone inquiries and requests.
- Perform proper handling, storage, and disposal of all surgical and autopsy tissue while adhering to the regulatory and compliance standards regarding biohazard and safety. Dispose of biohazardous waste materials and maintain chemical waste storage areas.
- Assist with ordering departmental supplies and maintaining adequate stock.
The Keck School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is one of the largest pathology departments in the United States. The Department aims to shape the future of pathology as it will be practiced in community hospitals, academic medical centers, and clinical laboratories throughout the country. The Department is growing rapidly, and there is great opportunity for advancement in the Anatomic Pathology Laboratories.
Shift: Monday - Friday 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM
Hourly range: The hourly rate range for this position is $33.02 - $41.69.
Minimum Education: Associate's Degree or specialized/technical training. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education. *60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory.
Minimum Work Experience: 1 Year. Preferred Experience: 1 year of full-time experience working in a pathology laboratory.
