Job DescriptionUnder close supervision from groundskeeper supervisor, performs routine, semi-skilled grounds maintenance functions (e.g., mows lawns; cleans grounds; removes snow).
- Adheres to all OSHA and/or Ohio University required safety guidelines.
- Mows, trims & edges lawns; weeds & waters lawns & flower beds; trims shrubs.
- Keep grounds clean (e.g., picks up papers & other debris; operates vacuum sweeper to clean sidewalks & parking lots when necessary).
- Removes snow & ice with hand shovel & broom; applies salt to snow & ice; operates power snow shovel when necessary.
- Performs general grounds-related custodial and maintenance duties (e.g., delivers materials & equipment; cleans shop area); does routine maintenance of grounds equipment (e.g., cleans, paints, oils, sharpens)
- Fertilizes lawns, trees and shrubs when assigned; plants trees, shrubs and other plants when assigned; seeds & sods lawns; sprays to control insects and disease as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications- Knowledge of turf & shrub maintenance;
- Skill in operating various types of mowers, weed eaters, & related equipment, operating snow shovels & related equipment;
- Ability to read & write common vocabulary in sentence structure;
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages;
- Ability to apply principles and solve practical problems;
- Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral, and pictorial form;
- Willingness to foster a welcoming and respectful workforce and community
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.;
- 6 mos. exp. in grounds work;
- ODA Pesticide applicator's license, Core, and sections 6a and 8 must be acquired within the 120 days probationary period.
- Valid Drivers License;
- Works under all weather conditions; may work with equipment and potentially hazardous chemicals;
- Established pattern of good work habits and performance with good interpersonal skills.
