Location: Our campus is located at 1601 Maple Street, Carrollton, GA 30118.

Faculty and staff members are expected to be physically present on campus as needed to support the in-person educational experience and on-campus vitality at the University of West Georgia. Depending upon teaching assignments and student demand, this could include the Carrollton or Newnan campuses.

Job Summary

This position provides landscape maintenance services for university properties to include mowing, weeding, trimming, edging, and chemical/fertilizing application on the campus grounds and athletic fields as well as surrounding areas. Responsibilities also include field preparation, trash removal, some field painting, and event set-ups (e.g. tents, chairs, etc.). Assists Grounds Superintendent and Supervisor by overseeing and directing groundskeeper associates and groundskeeper intermediates in everyday tasks as requested. Work is guided by a daily schedule for general assignments. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and have the ability to determine the necessary tasks to be performed. Must be able to work in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for the mowing, weeding, fertilizing, trimming, painting, and trash removal on all UWG properties including athletic fields. Responsible for maintaining the campus grounds and areas within the Athletic Complex as well as the equipment used for such maintenance.
  2. Must be able to detect, identify, and reassign unsatisfactory areas to staff members within this position's workgroup. This position will perform inventory control of supplies and equipment. Responsible for inputting time and other data in a computerized work management system, for the staff members within this position's workgroup. Responsible for leading team meetings when needed. Must perform monthly inspections and perform minor maintenance on the assigned vehicle(s).
  3. Responsible for becoming familiar with all campus properties and covering landscape maintenance tasks when an assigned groundskeeper is absent from work. May be instructed to use a scissors lift or ladder to perform some activities. Employee demonstrates an understanding of and maintains conditions that ensure a healthy and safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  4. Responsible for special project work such as pressure washing, tree trimming, tree and plant install/removal, etc.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements: High School Diploma/GED.

Other Required Qualifications: A valid driver's license is required. Position requires a pre-employment drug test.

Required Experience: Three years experience in operating and maintaining lawn mowers, tractors, and other power equipment is required. A valid driver's license is also required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED.

Preferred Experience: Pesticide Applicators license is preferred. One year supervisory or lead work experience is also preferred.

Proposed Salary

$15.74 Hourly. Paid on a Bi-Weekly Basis.

Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions. Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees and others.

KNOWLEDGE: Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies associated with basic grounds keeping.

SKILLS: Listens to instructions and asks necessary questions to complete tasks. Communicates with fellow workers in a manner that allows work to be completed. Interacts with others in the work area in a manner that encourages accomplishment of work tasks and ability to work as part of a team. Customer Service: Effectively listens and responds to customer needs and understands the role of customers in the work environment.
