PROVIDES WORK OR LEAD DIRECTION TO:
Grounds personnel and Short-Term employees.
EDUCATION:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
Three years of directly related full-time gardening experience are required. One year experience as a team leader of grounds personnel is desired.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Methods of propagating, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, flowers, shrubs, trees, and lawns; methods of preparing soils for planting; varieties of fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides and their proper usages; plant diseases and pests common to the area and the methods used in their eradication and control of small ground animals.
ABILITY TO:
Train and direct personnel in grounds maintenance and gardening work; operate equipment and tools used in grounds maintenance; communicate and execute assignments directed by area Manager; maintain and prepare athletic fields and line track.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Must have State of California certified commercial applicators license (Part A, B and C). Must have a valid California driver's license and have and maintain an insurable driving record acceptable to the District's insurance carrier.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Requires the ability to exert some physical effort, such as walking, standing and light lifting; dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs and body in the operation of office equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Outdoor grounds environment.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Assists in the planning, scheduling and organization of gardening and grounds maintenance activities; assigns Work Release personnel to duties as directed.
2. Waters and fertilizes weeds and mows lawns; prunes trees, shrubs and hedges.
3. Directs, monitors, and participates in the use of insecticides, herbicides, and growth retardant chemicals.
4. Operates riding mowers, skip loaders, backhoe, dump truck, forklift, 60-foot boom lift, and sprayers for fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides.
5. Maintains and prepares football, baseball and soccer fields and lines track.
6. Works in cooperation with other operations staff in installing, maintaining and repairing automated sprinkler controls, timing devices, sprinkler heads, valves and lines.
7. Performs a variety of work in the maintenance and operation of a swimming pool.
8. May be required to do various grounds repairs and related building repairs.
9. Facilitates working relationship with custodial staff.
10. Participates in District-provided in-service training programs.
11. Maintains a friendly, supportive atmosphere for students, staff, faculty, and the public.
12. Performs other duties, related to the position, as assigned.
