Position Summary:

The Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University invites applications for the Harold A. The opening is for a two-year appointment expected to commence July 1, 2026. The Stevens VAP furthers Cardozo Law's commitment to identifying and mentoring individuals with talent and passion for teaching and scholarship, but who may lack the elite background and mentoring opportunities that traditional candidates for the academy often possess. We also encourage applications from candidates who are the first generation in their families to attend institutions of higher education.

Position Responsibilities:

Holders of the Stevens VAP spend four semesters in residence at Cardozo Law, teaching and engaging in research and writing in preparation for entry into the market for tenure-track teaching positions. They participate in faculty workshops, conferences, colloquia, and other facets of the intellectual life of the law school, and in many respects, are treated as tenure-track faculty (albeit with a reduced teaching load and no administrative or committee obligations). They are given the opportunity to present works-in-progress to the faculty and more generally to receive feedback and mentoring from faculty members in preparation for the academic job market.

Experience & Educational Background:

Visiting Assistant Professors of Law must hold a J.D. or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral-level degree in law.

Skills & Competencies:

Cardozo Law is looking for candidates who can demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in teaching, research, and service. All candidates should be committed to building an equitable and diverse scholarly and educational environment.

Application Instructions:

Applications are invited from law school graduates and should include (1) a curriculum vitae, (2) a law school transcript, (3) a statement of the applicant's research and teaching interest, and (4) a list of three to six references. (No letters of recommendation should be sent; we will contact references as necessary.) Please submit these materials with a cover letter via email to Professor Jessica Roth, Chair of the Faculty Appointments Committee, at jroth1@yu.edu with the subject line 'Harold A. Stevens VAP Application.' Other members of the Appointments Committee are Haiyun Damon-Feng, Rebecca Ingber, Kathryn Miller, and Stewart Sterk. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Applicants also must submit their materials through the YU portal, which can be found here.

Salary Range:

$80,000-$90,000
