Head, Athletic Trainer
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The position will direct all aspects of the sports medicine program. The position is responsible for working with the head team physician to develop the overall sports medicine program, including injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs, and counseling of student-athletes. The position will direct, supervise, and evaluate all aspects of the athletic training program, including hiring, training, and supervising full-time assistant athletic trainers. The position will be responsible for specific sport responsibilities, including attendance at team practices and home and away competitions, and primary injury management of team members. The position will also assist with a drug education program, manage athletic training budget, serve as the primary liaison with the athletics insurance provider, assist in fundraising, and perform other duties as assigned by the director of athletics.
Responsibilities:
Athletic Training Room
- Evaluate and assist with athletic injuries
- Treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries
- Oversight of education programs for students in key areas like drug education and sports nutrition
Practice and Game Coverage
- Supervise practice and games for player safety
- Manage and treat athletic injuries
- Follow the rules and guidelines set by the NAIA and the Sun Conference
Management
- Scheduling of athletic trainers to ensure coverage for appropriate teams and home events
- Hiring, managing, and reviewing the performance of athletic trainers
- Ensuring that every staff member meets the state and federal requirements to serve as an athletic trainer
- Conducting regular meetings and utilizing other forms of communication to direct the staff and provide continuing education
- Managing the athletic training budgets
- Ensuring that all emergency procedures are updated and shared with athletic trainers and coaching staff
- Ensuring that all coaching staff members have active CPR, First Aid, and Blood-Borne Pathogen training
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field
- OR Bachelor’s degree and three years of athletic training experience
- OR In lieu of a degree, any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree.
- Six (6) years of progressive experience
