This is a part-time position. As Head Cheerleading Coach: responsible for all aspects of a cheerleading squad in support of NCAA Division III athletic programs.

Your Key Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Coaching and supervision of coaches and support staff;
  • Use athletics as a forum to develop and support a sense of pride and school spirit;
  • Ensure compliance with rules and regulations of all conference and national athletic affiliations;
  • Manage program budget within assigned funding levels;
  • Monitor academic progress of squad members;
  • General storage space and equipment upkeep and maintenance;
  • Work with the Sports Information office to ensure profile information on all squad members is accurate and up-to-date;
  • Communicate regularly with Athletic Training staff in the event of an injury to a squad member;
  • Arrange travel plans and coordinate scheduling with the Director of Athletics;
  • Ensure student-athlete compliance with all College policies applicable to all students;
  • Mentor and develop a positive culture for squad members.
  • Related duties as assigned by the Director or other administrators.

The head coaching appointment carries the expectation that the coach will serve as a representative and advocate for their program and our athletic department both on campus and in the local community. To this end, all coaches are required to:

  • Annually engage with program alumni;
  • Conduct fundraisers in support of their program;
  • Actively recruit new student-athletes to their program within Berea College and NCAA Division III guidelines;
  • Participate in a Special Olympics activity annually;
  • Maintain an on-campus presence by routinely attending certain functions or serving on a campus committee;
  • Support other student-athletes and teams.

Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive, respectful learning environment for all staff, faculty and students.

What You'll Bring

Education required to ensure success in this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience required to ensure success in this position:

  • Previous cheerleading experience required; coaching experience preferred.

Special skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Outstanding background and knowledge of cheerleading.
  • Ability to work with and relate well to students, faculty, staff and other coaches.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures.
  • Strong personal work ethic and a high level of personal integrity.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Understanding and agreement with the mission and Great Commitments of Berea College.
  • Familiarity with the NCAA Division III philosophy.

License, certification, or registration necessary:

  • CPR/AED/First Aid;
  • Driver’s license.
  • For any certifications not possessed upon hire, certifications must be promptly attained and regularly maintained.

Physical requirements:

  • Some heavy lifting;
  • Ability to move freely throughout a four-floor, 106,996 square foot athletic and recreation facility.
  • It is expected that the individual in this position will work at times other than, or in addition to, normal business hours and days, including attendance at numerous evening and weekend athletic events. This is especially true from August to May.

Environmental conditions:

  • Mostly indoor.

Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:

  • Standard computer hardware and software applications;
  • Be able to drive a 12-passenger van.
