Job Description

Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking candidates for the Head Coach, Men's Ice Hockey position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-DI).

The Head Coach is responsible for the overall leadership and success of Brown University's Men's Ice Hockey varsity athletic program. The Head Coach oversees student-athlete development, fosters a positive and inclusive team culture, and implements effective strategies to compete at the highest NCAA Division 1 level.

Essential position responsibilities include planning and leading practices and competitions, recruiting student-athletes who meet both Brown's academic and athletic standards, managing scheduling and travel, monitoring academic progress, and ensuring effective use of the program's budget and resources. The position also plays a key role in alumni engagement, fundraising, and community outreach efforts that support the program and the University.

As the public representative of the team, the Head Coach is expected to uphold the values of Brown University and the Ivy League, which emphasize academic excellence, student-athlete well-being, and competitive integrity. The coach must demonstrate a thorough understanding of and strict adherence to all NCAA, Ivy League, ECAC, and University rules and policies. Any violations may result in disciplinary action and can have serious implications for the program's reputation and eligibility.

This is a highly visible leadership role requiring outstanding communication, organization, and mentorship skills, with a clear commitment to the holistic development of student-athletes and the mission of Brown Athletics.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Five to seven years coaching and recruiting experience at the collegiate level required

  • Demonstrated ability to develop nationally competitive athletes.
  • Demonstrated academic success of previously coached student-athletes
  • Exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Commitment to the student-athlete and the ability to coach and motivate.
  • Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Strong organizational; creative writing; interpersonal; oral communication, and computer skills needed.
  • The successful candidate for this position will be required to complete a criminal background and DMV checks satisfactory to Brown University prior to commencing employment.
