Health Educator, Gender Expansive Care
Position Summary
The Health Educator 4 will lead UC Berkeley in crafting and implementing an effective and comprehensive educational plan that will address the institutional setting for gender expansive care and and instituting a collective impact framework for campus wide wellbeing initiatives. Major functions of the position include coaching, planning, implementing, and evaluating sustainable prevention initiatives; and building and leveraging key partnerships within the university, locally, and nationally. The HE4 is responsible for interventions at the individual, community, organizational, and policy level. The HE4 manages, plans, and administers comprehensive health promotion initiatives for UC Berkeley students with a special emphasis on gender expansive care.
Responsibilities
Health Coaching & Care Navigation:
- Serve as the first point of contact for undergraduate and graduate students seeking gender affirming care through 1:1 sessions and drop-in hours
- Provide holistic health coaching, care navigation support, resource referral, and advocacy for topics relevant to trans, nonbinary, and gender diverse communities including but not limited to: gender affirming healthcare access and navigation; name, gender marker, and pronoun changes; bias or harassment (misgendering, deadnaming); sexual health; basic needs; other relevant/emerging issues.
- Provide support for students regarding healthcare navigation related to gender affirming care within and external to University Health Services, including but not limited to: scheduling, connections to providers and staff, health insurance navigation (in partnership with Student Health Insurance Plan staff), etc.
Education, Training & Resource Development:
- Provide education and training for University Health Services staff on supporting and providing culturally competent care for trans, nonbinary, and gender diverse patients.
- In partnership with the Gender Equity Resource Center, provide in-person and online trainings on supporting trans, nonbinary, and gender diverse communities for campus constituents (students, staff, faculty, organizations, departments).
- Collaborate with, advise, and support peer education initiatives relating to gender & sexuality.
- Develop and maintain University Health Services resources relevant to trans, nonbinary, and gender diverse student needs.
- Develop and collaborate on programming on issues relevant to trans, nonbinary, and gender diverse communities in partnership with the Gender Equity Resource Center.
- Advise and consult on campus initiatives and programming relevant to trans, nonbinary, and gender diverse communities.
Advising, Coordination, & Consultation:
- Provide comprehensive guidance to senior leadership and committees, utilizing knowledge of dynamics of power, privilege, and oppression, gendered violence, sexual and intimate partner violence, and gendered violence on the college campus.
- Serve on UHS Trans & Gender Diverse Care & Trans Leadership teams.
- Serve as UHS Liaison to the Trans Student Wellness Initiative.
- Serve on other campus committees relevant to gender affirming care and trans, nonbinary, and gender diverse communities, including the Campus Advisory Committee for LGBTQ+ Communities at Cal.
- Advise, consult, and provide information on policies relevant to trans, nonbinary, and gender diverse communities.
- Serve as a health/wellness liaison to specific student communities (to be determined). Develop collaborations, identify strategies, support individual and environmental initiatives; address student concerns. Support unit accessibility and systems through implementing administrative processes.
