The College of Health Sciences at Alabama State University invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Health Information Management. JOB DUTIES

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Health Information Management will contribute to the academic mission of the university through excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Teaching responsibilities include delivering undergraduate and graduate courses in health information management, electronic health records, healthcare data analytics, healthcare reimbursement methodologies, healthcare privacy and security, and other related subjects.

The faculty member will utilize innovative teaching strategies that incorporate both theoretical concepts and practical applications, preparing students for success in diverse healthcare settings.

In the classroom, the professor will facilitate student learning through lectures, discussions, case studies, and hands-on laboratory experiences, adapting teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and educational backgrounds. The faculty member will mentor and advise students, providing guidance on academic progress, career development, and professional certification. Additionally, the professor will supervise student projects, internships, and capstone experiences that bridge academic knowledge with real-world applications.

Scholarly activities constitute an important aspect of this position. The faculty member will establish and maintain an active research agenda in health information management or related fields, pursuing external funding opportunities through grants and contracts when appropriate. The professor will disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and other scholarly venues. Engagement in scholarship ensures that teaching remains current and relevant, enhancing the educational experience for students and contributing to the advancement of the field.

Service responsibilities include active participation in departmental, college, and university committees, contributing to program development, accreditation activities, and strategic planning initiatives. The faculty member will engage with professional organizations in health information management, serving on committees, reviewing manuscripts, and participating in conferences. Community service activities may include consulting with healthcare organizations, providing continuing education programs, and collaborating with community partners to address health information challenges.

The successful candidate will also contribute to program administration through participation in curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous quality improvement initiatives. The faculty member will collaborate with colleagues to ensure program compliance with accreditation standards and to implement best practices in health information management education. Additionally, the professor will participate in student recruitment and retention activities, helping to build and sustain a diverse student body within the program.
