Job Summary: Health & Well-Being Associate Educators are peer educators who co-learn with community members and adapt teaching to honor participants’ cultures and experiences. This position will work collaboratively with community partners and engage people from the diverse communities of Wisconsin to adopt healthy food and physical activity habits. The successful candidate will be part of expanding this role into addressing additional domains of health and well-being in collaboration with the Institute.
The initial focus of this position will be on food and nutrition-related programming, responsive to community-identified needs and priorities. Over time, the role may evolve to include additional health and well-being topics across various settings that influence public health. These may include school-based health initiatives, mental health, substance misuse prevention and recovery, adolescent well-being, social and environmental conditions, and policy, systems, and environmental change strategies that promote overall health.
County Location
The main office for this position is located in Oconto, WI and the primary programming focus is Oconto County; however, some programming may also be conducted over a broader geographical area.
In Person
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Evening/Weekend Work
This position may be required to work occasional nights and weekends to meet the program needs and priorities of the communities served.
Travel Expectations
It is expected that employees will make individual arrangements for transportation adequate to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions. Applicants are required to: Have a valid drivers license and a reliable source of independent transportation for periodic in-state work travel, and/or comply with requirements for UW-Madison vehicle use authorization.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Procures and maintains course materials and supplies
- Implements initiatives and events that serve the target audience
- Helps design marketing materials and promotions for programs
- Teaches culturally relevant educational programs to adults and youth using learner-centered activities and lessons
- Tracks program evaluation and incorporates feedback for improvement

About the Institute
The Health & Well-Being Institute works to catalyze positive change in Wisconsin residents through evidence-based and community-engaged health promotion programs to improve health, build community capacity to identify and address health inequities, engage in collective action, and achieve greater health equity.
Compensation:
The minimum annual (12 months) starting for the position is $46,363 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. This is a part-time position, which means actual salary earned will be prorated based on FTE (full-time status). At 50% FTE, the person hired can expect to receive 50% of the advertised salary. Please note that some benefits such as paid time off will be prorated by appointment percentage. Required Qualifications:
- Ability to teach interactive lessons to youth and/or adults in group settings
- Work, volunteer or life experience with people or groups with limited income
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional work environments
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work with people from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives
- Demonstrated commitment to Extensions’ values of equity and social justice to support opportunities and outcomes for youth, families, and communities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Volunteer or work experience related to food and nutrition education
- Experience managing multiple tasks, timelines, and schedules while maintaining high quality work
- Ability to work cooperatively with other agencies, community-based services, or organizations
Education:
Required Education: High School graduate or equivalent
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in a field related to this position’s focus
