HEALTHCARE AUDITOR
Scope of Job
Participates in the planning, performance, and follow-up of routine healthcare related audits and consulting engagements for the UTRGV healthcare enterprise to ensure effectiveness of internal controls and efficiency of operations.
Description of Duties
- Participates in the planning and fieldwork of internal healthcare audits and conducts research to obtain background information.
- Identifies risk and related controls, including potential healthcare fraud risks during planning and fieldwork.
- Develops strategies and recommendations to mitigate these risks and improve overall compliance.
- Responsible for developing engagement objectives, scope and audit programs.
- Plans, participates, and documents interviews with healthcare client contacts.
- Identifies preliminary issues, evaluates evidence, and ensures all audit findings contain sufficient supporting documentation.
- Prepares detailed audit reports outlining findings, recommendations, and corrective actions required to address identified deficiencies.
- Assesses the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure data integrity, and prevent fraud or misuse of resources.
- Documents work performed in accordance with appropriate auditing standards.
- Cooperates with independent auditors and provides data in support of external audits as needed.
- Stays abreast of changes in healthcare laws and regulations, industry trends healthcare operations and accounting/auditing standards.
- Monitors own time to meet assigned deadlines and proactively communicates status of assigned work to management.
- Continuously enhance professional knowledge and auditing skills through training and professional development opportunities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received: General supervision from assigned supervisor.
Supervision Given: Direct supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, healthcare administration or related degree from an accredited university.
Required Experience: Two (2) years of auditing experience including healthcare related audits and or strong knowledge in healthcare operations.
Equipment: Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions: Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
