Help Desk Technician (Internal Only)
Job Description:
Raritan Valley Community College has an anticipated opening for a Help Desk Technician. The Help Desk Technician provides personal computer hardware and software troubleshooting, repair, and support to college faculty, staff, and students. Support is provided on devices using Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS, iOS, and Android. The Help Desk Technician works as part of a team with other Technology Services staff. This position includes supervision of student workers.
Essential Duties:
- Provide technical assistance, support, and troubleshooting for installation and maintenance of desktop and laptop personal computer systems hardware, software, and peripherals.
- Create and maintain documentation for systems and procedures.
- Use ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus software to manage service requests.
- Place and manage service requests to outside vendors when needed.
- Utilize and manage the hardware inventory system.
- Use imaging software systems for student computer labs' maintenance.
- Receive and respond to Help Desk incoming calls, tickets, and e-mails.
- Mentor student and part-time workers.
- Assign tickets and projects to student workers and follow up as necessary.
- Working with the End-User Computing Support Manager to suggest and implement process and service improvements.
- Participate in appropriate industry organizations and conferences.
- Maintain technical skills through formal and informal training.
Requirements:
- Associates' degree in an appropriate field from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum of two years' experience working in an information technology help desk role, or other personal computer support environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Customer Service orientation.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex personal computer hardware and software problems.
- A thorough understanding of the latest Microsoft Windows operating systems, and of modern computer hardware.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft 365.
- Experience with basic wired and wireless data networking, and mobile devices.
- Ability to learn independently, have good initiative and self-motivation, and utilize organizational skills.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and to function in a team environment.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Working experience with the Apple Macintosh operating system
- Advanced knowledge and experience with computer imaging using tools such as Broadcom Ghost and Jamf Apple Enterprise Management.
