Offer Description
In compliance with the provisions of subparagraph e) of article 48 of Law No. 24/2012, of July 9 (Framework Law on Foundations), and for the purposes of paragraph 4 of Article 30 and Article 33 of the General Labour Law in Public Functions (LTFP), approved by Law No. 35/2014 of 20 June, and paragraph 1 of Article 19 of Resolution of the Regional Government Council No. 178/2009 of 24 November, republished by Rectification Declaration No. 14/2009 of 2 December, it is hereby made public that, by decision of 7 September 2026 of the President of the Board of Directors of Fundação Gaspar Frutuoso FP, a public-law foundation governed by private law, a common recruitment procedure is open for a period of 10 working days, counting from the date of publication of this notice, for the recruitment of one Higher Technician under an employment contract of uncertain duration, pursuant to paragraph h) of Article 140(2) of the Portuguese Labour Code, which may not exceed the duration of the research project funding the position, with a view to filling one post in the Higher Technician career and category (Master's degree in Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Sciences, Neurosciences, Neuropsychology, or related areas).
The contract falls within the scope of the research project “Quiet Nature? The Impact of Noise Pollution in a Nature Destination” (2025.06714.AZO – QuietNature), funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) under the R&D Projects Call “Azores: Ecological Transition – Space – Ocean”.
1 – Applicable Legislation: Framework Law on Foundations, approved by Law No. 24/2012 of 9 July; General Labour Law in Public Functions (LTFP), approved by Law No. 35/2014 of 20 June; Portuguese Labour Code, approved by Law No. 7/2009 of 12 February, as amended; Resolution of the Regional Government Council No. 178/2009 of 24 November, republished by Rectification Declaration No. 14/2009 of 2 December, all in their current wording.

3 – Place of Work: University of the Azores, Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Ponta Delgada Campus, 9500-321 Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal.
4 – Job Description: The duties correspond to functional complexity level 3, pursuant to paragraph c) of Article 86(1) of the LTFP, requiring at least a Master's degree.
The employee will perform duties at the level of Higher Technician, under the scientific supervision of Professor Ana Catarina Macedo Mendonça, and will be responsible for:
- Programming scientific experiments involving natural stimuli and neuropsychological tests in a laboratory context;
- Use of psychophysiological equipment and electroencephalography (EEG);
- Collaboration with the research team, including support to Master's students;
- Data analysis and preparation of scientific publications.
The contract shall remain in force for an uncertain duration and shall under no circumstances extend beyond the period necessary for the execution of the project that fully co-finances the respective employment costs.
5 – Scope of Recruitment: Recruitment is carried out under paragraph 4 of Article 30 of the LTFP and is open to applicants with or without a prior public employment relationship.
6 – Salary Position: The recruited worker shall be placed at the 1st salary position of the Higher Technician career, under Regulatory Decree No. 14/2008 of 31 July, corresponding to remuneration level 16 of the Single Remuneration Table (TRU), as updated by Decree-Law No. 29-A/2026 of 30 January.
7 – Required Academic Qualifications: Master's degree, pursuant to Article 34 of the LTFP, in Psychology, specialising in Cognitive Psychology (preferred qualification), Neuropsychology, Neurosciences, or related fields, corresponding to functional complexity level 3, under paragraph c) of Article 86(1) of the LTFP. Academic qualifications may not be substituted by professional training or experience.
8 – Selection Methods and Criteria: Pursuant to paragraph 8 of Article 6 of Regional Legislative Decree No. 26/2008/A of 24 July, as amended by Regional Legislative Decree No. 12/2018/A of 22 October, the selection methods to be used are Curriculum Assessment (CA) and Oral Knowledge Examination (OKE), according to the following formula:
Final Score = 0.30 × CA + 0.70 × OKE
The final rating of candidates shall be expressed on a scale from 0 to 20 points, rounded to two decimal places.
8.1 – Curriculum Assessment (CA): This method aims to analyse candidates’ qualifications, namely academic or professional qualifications, professional career path, relevance of acquired experience and training, type of functions performed, and performance evaluation obtained.
CA = (AQ + PT + 2PE) / 4, where:
AQ = Academic Qualifications: assessment of academic degrees certified by the competent authorities:
- Master’s degree in Cognitive Psychology, Neuropsychology, Neurosciences, or related fields: 16 points;
- PhD in Cognitive Psychology, Neuropsychology, Neurosciences, or related fields: 20 points.
PT = Professional Training: taking into account training and professional development activities related to the requirements and skills necessary for the position:
- No training activities, seminars or symposiums attended, or attendance of training activities, seminars or symposiums not related to the scientific area of the position: 8 points;
- Attendance of one training course, seminar or symposium related to the scientific area of the position: 14 points + 1 additional point for each extra training activity, seminar or symposium attended beyond the first, up to a maximum of 20 points.
PE = Professional Experience: considering and assessing experience related to activities inherent to the position and their complexity level, duly documented and expressed in terms of:
- paid or unpaid scientific activities in the field of cognitive psychology;
- demonstrated competence in programming cognitive psychology experiments;
- demonstrated competence in data analysis, scientific writing and scientific publication.
- Professional experience not directly related to points i), ii), and iii): 4 points;
- Professional experience directly related to the functions of the position for a period exceeding 6 months, covering only one of points i), ii), or iii): 8 points;
- Professional experience directly related to the functions of the position for a period of at least 6 months, covering two of points i), ii), and iii): 10 points;
- Professional experience directly related to the functions of the position for a period of at least 6 months, covering all three points i), ii), and iii): 14 points;
- Professional experience as described in point 4, for a period of at least 12 months (plus 1 point for each additional year of experience, up to a maximum of 20 points): 16 points.
8.2 – Oral Knowledge Examination (OKE): The Oral Knowledge Examination aims to assess candidates’ academic and/or professional knowledge and technical skills required for the performance of the position.
An individual assessment record shall be prepared for each Oral Knowledge Examination, containing a summary of the topics discussed, assessment parameters and the classification awarded for each of them, duly justified.
The Oral Knowledge Examination shall be graded on a scale from 0 to 20 points, with scores recorded to two decimal places.
9 – Failure of candidates to attend the Oral Knowledge Examination (OKE) shall be deemed withdrawal from the competition; likewise, candidates obtaining a score lower than 9.5 points in the Curriculum Assessment (CA) shall be excluded from the procedure and shall not be invited to the Oral Knowledge Examination.
10 – In cases of equal classification, the provisions of Article 35 of Resolution No. 178/2009 of 24 November, republished by Rectification Declaration No. 14/2009 of 2 December, shall apply.
11 – Pursuant to paragraph t) of Article 19 of Resolution No. 178/2009 of 24 November, the minutes of the selection panel, setting out the assessment parameters and their weighting, the scoring grid and the final evaluation system, shall be made available to candidates whenever requested.
12 – Exclusion and Notification of Candidates: In accordance with Article 30(1) of Resolution No. 178/2009 of 24 November, republished by Rectification Declaration No. 14/2009 of 2 December, excluded candidates shall be notified for the purpose of exercising their right to be heard.
12.1 – The exercise of the right of participation by interested parties must be carried out by email.
12.2 – Admitted candidates shall be informed of the results of the Curriculum Assessment, under Article 32 and by one of the means provided for in Article 30(3) of Resolution No. 178/2009 of 24 November, preferably by email.
13 – Employment Quotas: Compliance shall be ensured with paragraph 3 of Article 3 of Decree-Law No. 29/2001 of 3 February, adapted to the Autonomous Region of the Azores by Regional Legislative Decree No. 4/2002/A of 1 March. Candidates with disabilities shall be given preference in the event of equal classification, prevailing over any other legal preference. For this purpose, candidates must declare in the application, under honour commitment, their degree of disability, type of disability and communication/expression means to be used throughout the selection process.
14 – Validity Period: The recruitment procedure shall remain valid for six months.

18 – False declarations made by candidates shall be punished in accordance with the law.
