Histologic Technician

Position Description

This position is responsible for providing technical support in the histology laboratory. Employees in this position process, embed, cut, stain, and prepare tissue slides for pathologist to review for diagnostic evaluations.

Major/Essential Functions

• Immediate specimen handling.
• Accuracy in specimen ID, cutting, staining, and coverslipping.
• Ensures daily/weekly cleaning, reagent change, and rotation is performed.
• Ability to test tissue for efficient decaling.
• Continuity of documenting for multiple technicians.
• Properly sections tissue in paraffin blocks.
• Orients sections properly on slides.
• Follows protocols for different tissue types.
• Embed tissue into paraffin blocks.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent; four years of experience, of which 2 years are in a histology department having fixation, microtomy, processing, staining and gross room.

Preferred Qualifications

Must be a Certified Histotechnician.

Pay Grade

Minimum: $23.33 Hourly
Maximum: $29.56 Hourly
