Job Summary
The Honors College Academic Counselor I works to support student development in the Honors College across multiple campuses which can include Honors curriculum advising, intellectual discovery across Honors College programs, student engagement, and career coaching tailored to an honors student population. This role will advise, guide, and mentor Honors College Students.
Core Responsibilities
- Participates in new student orientation with the Honors Academic Counseling Team.
- Assists with new student onboarding.
- Advises, guides, and mentors Honors College students in Honors curriculum completion.
- Assists students in the preparation of application materials for experiential learning, including internships, service learning, study abroad, and undergraduate research.
- Assists in organizing and executing events related to student development.
- Conducts audits and other report processes for Honors students with assistance from the Honors Academic Counseling Team.
- Tracks relevant retention, satisfactory progress, and graduation data regarding Honors students.
- Maintains and records regular communication with Honors students.
- Participates in campus, community service, and extracurricular events for Honors, virtually and/or in person as appropriate, which may include evening and weekend events.
- Assists in designing and delivering programming to encourage student participation in areas of Honors education.
- Interviews students for Honors programs.
- Serves on Honors committees and represents Honors in university committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- One (1) year of related work experience.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with mentoring, research, study abroad, retention and graduation, and professional development.
- Experience with assessments and reporting.
- Experience with workshop development and event planning.
- Knowledge working with Canvas, Salesforce, PeopleSoft, Banner and other advising related software.
- Strong working knowledge of honors colleges, honors programs, and honors curriculum.

Working Conditions
Office environment. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events. Occasional after-hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.
Physical Demands
Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
This position will work primarily on campus (Downtown/Main Campus). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
