About this Position

To develop in each student the skills of critical thinking and to help students learn horticulture theory and application content presented to them in order for that student to become a positive member of the community. May teach horticulture classes, including lecture-only subjects and/or lecture subjects with hands-on lab sessions.

Required Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Horticulture or related field. Must have educational qualifications to teach in the subject area or have documented specialty education/experience to meet tested experience requirements, as per the Higher Learning Commission's publication on Determining Qualified Faculty, and provide leadership in an academic discipline and/or degree program. Must have three to five years of industry experience in the area(s) of instruction.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge

Teaching Competence – Must be able to create lesson plans, content, presentations, ancillary materials, and assignments to effectively transform information to knowledge for students; have the ability to assess student learning and progress.

Communication skills – Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English. Requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.

Computer skills – Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as email, internet, and learning management systems (i.e., Canvas).

Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU brand with positivity and professionalism. Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in discipline or related area or Master's Degree with 18 hours in the discipline. Prefer experience using Canvas LMS. College-level teaching and online classroom management experience.

Work Schedule: Dependent on needs of the department and course schedule.

Appointment Length: 6 months or less.

Hiring Range: $750 per credit hour for lecture courses. $800 per credit hour for lab courses.
