We invite excellent PhD candidates who will apply for external funding (e.g. MSCA Doctoral Networks, national doctoral scholarships, industrial PhDs or other EU/national schemes) and wish to be hosted by Metapilot Academy in Barcelona or Bucharest. Our PhD paths are focused and research‑intensive; candidates get an initial overview of AI, defense, aerospace, robotics, biotech and neurobiology, and then converge on a specialized track.
Preferred profiles include:
- Neurobiologists, neurotechnologists and neurologists
- Biotech and biomedical engineers
- Engineers with a focus on energy, climate, robotics or AI
- Strong AI/ML engineers motivated to work in aerospace, defense, mobility or health
Typical PhD research themes:
- Neurotechnology and brain‑computer interfaces, neuromorphic systems and human‑machine teaming
- AI for aerospace, defense and robotics, including safety‑critical and mission‑critical applications
- Biotech and neurobiology‑driven innovation for health, cognitive enhancement and resilience
- Energy and climate‑aware engineering for aviation, mobility and space systems
- Agentic AI, simulation and spatial computing for training, operations and decision‑support
Funding and conditions
This offer is hosting‑only and fully funding‑dependent: Metapilot Academy does not automatically provide a salary or stipend. Candidates must:
- Be eligible for a competitive PhD funding scheme
- Lead or join the grant application with Metapilot Academy as host/co‑host
- Understand that enrolment proceeds only if adequate funding is awarded
We provide supervision, industrial co‑supervision where relevant, proposal‑writing support, and integration into our projects and community, including the Vienna graduation demo to investors and recruiters.
