Job Description
The University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) is seeking a Hot Cell & Irradiations Technician to join the dynamic Irradiations team. This position will report to the Manager of Hot Cell and Irradiations. As a Hot Cell and Irradiations Technician, you will be responsible for processing and irradiating customer samples from beginning to end.
The Hot Cell and Irradiations team works closely with all teams at MURR to ensure efficient and safe irradiation of samples. This role is critical to the success of the MU Research Reactor.
Key Duties Performed by This Position Will Include
Sample Preparation and Handling
- Prepare customer samples for irradiation
- Complete associated paperwork accurately
- Calculate anticipated radioactivity of samples being loaded
- Transport shielded casks containing radioisotopes to and from hot cells
Equipment Operation
- Operate manual lifts, fork lifts, cranes, hydraulic tables, and elevators safely
- Operate TIG welder and laser engraver
- Operate electric hand tools and some machine shop equipment
Coordination and Communication
- Coordinate with other work groups to ensure samples reach their appropriate destination
Maintenance and Organization
- Perform routine cleaning and organizing of work areas

Shift
Work processes can begin in the early morning or late-night hours and are subject to change: Monday work processes begin Sunday night at 10:30 and Wednesday processes begin at 4:30am. The remaining days begin at 7am. The schedule rotates such that approximately half of the staff work early rotation each week. This position does include work schedule flexibility, and off-core-hours incentive pay. Additional information will be discussed during an interview.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to lift 50 lbs. is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a nuclear facility.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Hiring Salary: $25.00 per hour
Grade: GGS MKT
