Under the general direction of the Director, Human Resources, Operations & Real Estate Partnerships (OREP), the HR Consultant supports the operational and strategic human resources needs of clients within the portfolio. The incumbent will partner with clients to provide a wide range of HR services, advice and support. Specifically, the Consultant advises on a full range of HR issues including: employment policies, practices and procedures including employee and labour relations, workplace investigations, recruitment, job design, job evaluation and salary administration, work accommodation and attendance management, training and development, problem and conflict resolution, organizational change.
Essential Qualifications
EDUCATION: University degree in a relevant discipline and course work leading to the completion of the CHRP designation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five (5) years' progressively responsible and related human resources experience. Demonstrated experience developing strategy, providing expertise and advice in relation to complex human resources matters; demonstrated experience advising clients on the interpretation, application and administration of collective agreements and employment legislation, policies, procedures and best practices. Sound knowledge of human resources best practices and employment legislation. In-depth experience in the following functional areas: recruitment and selection; job evaluation and classification; salary administration; and labour relations. Experience conducting workplace investigations is preferred.
SKILLS: Proficiency in standard computer applications (MS Office, e-mail, scheduling software, etc.); experience using HRIS or a similar system.
OTHER: Proactive and energetic customer-service orientation with an awareness of and sensitivity to diversity. Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities within tight deadlines. Superior verbal and written communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent judgment; strong initiative and ability to work independently. Tact, empathy and confidentiality in dealing with difficult or sensitive situations.
