Since its establishment in 1905, the Department of Physiology has grown to become one of the largest departments in the University, being home to approximately 100 staff. We have contributed strongly to biomedical research both nationally and internationally and have trained many postgraduates who have attained a high international reputation for their research. Our research endeavours are enabled by state-of-the-art equipment and facilities including recently developed electrophysiology suites, a modern imaging unit, and cell, bacterial, and tissue culture facilities.
The Human Body Systems I and II (HUBS 191 and 192) papers, taught in semester one and two, respectively, are part of the seven-paper foundation programme of the Health Sciences First Year and will be taken by a large number of non-health science students.
The role | Te mahi
The Technical Assistant for HUBS 191 and 192 (Human Body Systems I and II) papers will assist with the preparation of undergraduate laboratory classes. The work involves setting up the teaching laboratories under guidance, becoming familiar with the equipment, materials and software used, troubleshooting, keeping teaching areas clean and orderly, monitoring attendance and assisting with the care of class materials and equipment. There is also a requirement to assist the Receptionist with student enquiries and timetable changes.

The ideal applicant will have:
• Excellent laboratory and organisational skills.
• Good interpersonal skills
• The ability to work within a team or individually, and with staff and students of differing backgrounds.
• Computer experience is essential.

This is a full time (academic year only), permanent position, located in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.
The academic year covers 10 months each year (mid-February to mid-November inclusive). Flexible working hours will be required.
The appointment range for this role is $63,508 to $69,185. Top of the range $73,640 (pro-rata).
