Human Communication Instructor
Job Description
College of Marin is seeking a Full-time, Tenure-track Faculty for Human Communication. Anticipated Start Date: Fall Semester 2026 (August). Priority Screening Date: October 27, 2025. Open Until Filled. Up to two positions may be filled from this posting.
Overview: Courses in Human Communication provide introductory-level study of the theories and skills of public speaking, argument and persuasion, and interpersonal and intercultural communications. The curriculum is designed for students interested in pursuing skills in marketing, public relations, communications, and to satisfy general education requirements.
The College is looking for faculty who advocate for students, have a student-centered approach, inspire intellectual curiosity, commit to equity and social justice, educate diverse student populations, use innovative pedagogies, maximize technology in teaching, work collaboratively, and engage in student learning outcomes assessment.
Essential Functions:
- Provide effective classroom and laboratory instruction using appropriate methods and materials.
- Prepare and evaluate class assignments and examinations.
- Advise, assist, and evaluate student performance and learning outcomes.
- Participate in program activities including curriculum development, evaluation, planning, and resource development.
- Contribute to program policies and procedures.
- Participate in college committees and departmental activities.
- Maintain and post office hours.
- Maintain accurate student records.
- Maintain knowledge in the assigned area.
- Adhere to professional conduct and ethics standards.
Requirements:
- A Master's degree in Speech, Speech Broadcasting, Telecommunications, Rhetoric, Communication, Communication Studies, Speech Communication, or Organizational Communication; OR a Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a Master's in Drama/Theater Arts, Mass Communication, or English; OR the equivalent.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable attributes include expertise in communication courses, enthusiasm for curriculum development, familiarity with multiple teaching modalities, and commitment to professional growth.
