Human Resources Technician 2 - HR Operations Coordinator

This position provides general technical and administrative support to the Human Resources and Employee Experience team. The general departmental support includes reception, receiving and assisting all guests, and the general public in a professional and welcoming manner. This position is the face of the Human Resources and Employee Experiences department and is responsible for the external impression of the office. The position also acts as office manager and ensures appropriate office organization and supplies, budget monitoring, purchasing processes. Under employee development, the position is also responsible for organizing and implementing several employee recognition events: service awards, emeritus and retirement events. This position has access to documents/data containing labor relations information and serves as a resource to the management team for labor relations information, as defined in M.S. 13.37.

This position interacts with every level of the University, the Minnesota State system, and the public. In many instances, the interactions are of a sensitive or difficult nature and the ability to deal effectively and professionally with individuals is critical. A high degree of tact and sound judgment is required. Building relations with University employees is an integral part of the position and requires extensive human relations skills.

This is a hybrid role. The incumbent is expected to work in person at Metro State 3-days per week and may work remotely 2-days per week.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of administrative support experience.
  • Customer service skills sufficient to counsel employees who have questions.
  • Experience working in the human resources field.
  • Ability to learn and understand collective bargaining agreements, laws, and personnel policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with individuals and groups.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office and human resource management systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, laws and personnel practices.
  • Ability to learn and comprehend complex processes, policies and procedures quickly.
  • Experience working in higher education.
