"Humanities Research Fellowship for the Study of the Arab World - Research Writing Retreat"

The Humanities Research Fellowship for the Study of the Arab World invites distinguished scholars to apply for its Research Writing Retreat, to be held in Winter 2026 and Spring 2026 at NYU Abu Dhabi. This two-week retreat aims to foster a scholarly community for up to 8 scholars from around the world and advance research projects in all areas of the Humanities related to the Arab world, its literature, history, cultural and artistic heritage, and connections with other cultures. Scholars will work on academic writing such as research articles, book manuscripts, chapters, or essays.

Applicants may indicate their preferred term (Winter or Spring), with placements based on availability and budget. The fellowship covers travel costs to and from Abu Dhabi, accommodation, and meals for the retreat duration.

Expectations during the residency:

• Three group dinners with fellow scholars and select NYUAD faculty
• One lunch meeting with NYUAD faculty or HRF Research Fellow
• One research panel presentation

Retreat Dates:

• Winter 2026: January 12-23, 2026
• Spring 2026: May 11-23, 2026

Qualifications: We welcome applications from international senior scholars with outstanding accomplishments and mid-career scholars with strong publication records.

• CV – up to 4 pages
• Research Proposal – 3-5 pages (including references) outlining key arguments, themes, significance, methods, work plan, expected final product, and dissemination plans
• Short Answer Form – including project abstract and relevance of the UAE and/or the NYUAD Humanities Research Fellowship residency
