HVAC Mechanic 2
Job Summary
This position is required to perform installation, replacement, or repairs to a variety of building heating, ventilating, air conditioning, & refrigeration (HVACR) equipment including chillers, air conditioning, motors, heating units, heat pumps, air compressors, heating equipment, boilers, burners, intake & exhaust fans, humidifiers, controls, split systems, air dryers, & packaged units. Assists in planning, scheduling, & executing major HVACR system repair projects, such as the replacement of air handling units, chillers, or boilers & to lead emergency repair efforts to repair such units. Inspects & troubleshoots HVACR systems & their components for the purpose of evaluating operating status & material condition, identifying necessary repairs & recommending a proper course of action. Oversees & plans assigned work orders using Facilities Work Management system to prioritize & schedule work. Identifies options, develops solutions, & takes action when responding to stakeholder requests. This position is required to serve in an on-call status & remain work-ready when scheduled for an on-call period or rotation. This position may be responsible for training, assisting or assigning tasks to lower lever staff.
Responsibilities
Preventative Maintenance
Always leave equipment in safe working condition, immediately notify supervisor of dangerous situations. Document and notify supervisor of any equipment failure and/or potential failures. Document all corrective actions in detail on assigned work orders. Perform quarterly, mid-annual, and annual preventative maintenances on Augusta University HVAC equipment based on manufactures required preventative maintenance requirements. Performs all maintenance work in a neat and timely manner. Schedule all preventative maintenances so that it does not disrupt the operation of Augusta University buildings or its customers. Keep records of completed preventative maintenance as well as any future work that needs to be completed. Communicate to supervisor of any shutdowns that need to occur to complete preventative maintenance of Augusta University HVAC equipment. Communicate with supervisor once preventative maintenance is complete and equipment has been returned to normal operation.
Responds to Work Request
Respond to work orders in a quick and timely manner. Communicate with customer explaining if work order is completed or if further work needs to be completed. Troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems in a quick a timely manner. Engage with other trades as needed to complete work orders. Schedule shutdowns with supervisor to ensure Augusta University buildings and its customers are not being disrupted. Communicate with supervisor any future work that needs to be completed to ensure all Augusta University equipment is effectively operating. Document and notify supervisor of any equipment failure and/or potential failures. Document all corrective actions in detail on assigned work orders.
Leadership
Utilizes effective critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills to make decisions and communicates tactfully to Facilities Leadership
Contract Management
Estimates materials needed and records time and material expended on each work order. Prepares and submits material requisitions required to complete assigned tasks. Reads, interpret blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, to determine appropriate job requirements and procedures. Perform shutdowns of assigned systems as required for maintenance or for project support.
Communications
Consistently provide professional, accurate, tactful, and timely written and verbal communications to Facilities staff as well as other Augusta University staff. Establishes and maintains positive collaborative working relationships with Facility Operations and customers
Other
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization and 3+ years of experience in the HVACR field. Valid drivers license and approval of Public Safety to drive AU vehicles. EPA Certification 608 Type II or Higher
Preferred Qualifications
Vocational Degree in HVACR from recognized State or federal accrediting organization. 6 or more years of applicable electrical experience. HVACR Contractor (non-restricted) license from the State of Georgia. NATE Certification
