Our team:

The Building Engineering Trades (BGM) of LBRE are an integral part of maintaining and improving the core systems of the architectural structures on campus. These Electric, HVAC and Plumbing shops provide a range of services to academic, research, library and special University facilities which include the following:

  • 24 Hour Emergency Response
  • Routine Maintenance
  • New System Design & Installation
  • Repairs & Alterations to Existing Systems

Summary of Job Description:
Under the guidance of BGM/LBRE Leadership, the HUB/District Supervisor is responsible for the operational management and effective daily leadership and administration of the engineering team with the objectives of safely, efficiently, and effectively operating machinery and systems in a cost-effective manner. The HUB/District Supervisor/ must ensure the highest level of professionalism, while meeting the client's needs, and a commitment to achieving the goal of 100% uptime throughout the engineering team. Responsible for protecting and improving the value of the client's assets and ensuring that building engineering systems continue to perform their intended function.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage Stanford Bargaining Unit maintenance staff including hiring, training, and personal development.
  • Oversee and manage aspects of HVAC service calls and preventive maintenance.
  • Oversee the maintenance and continuous operation of HVAC building systems
  • Work with district/BGM/utilities staff and contracting with outside vendors as necessary.
  • Address operational issues and concerns in a timely fashion.
  • Provide field support when necessary to all technicians.
  • Conduct monthly tailgate safety meetings
  • Performance Reviews during the fiscal year.
  • Assist with materials procurement as needed.
  • Coordinate with planner team as needed to address work orders needs.
  • Responsible for overseeing the activities of contractors working within the district's buildings either as representatives of the building itself or tenants operating within the building.
  • Communicate with internal and external clients including University Faculty and Staff regarding various areas of concern.
  • Identify the maintenance objectives of the District facilities and incorporate those objectives into a documented plan that includes preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance procedures.
  • General knowledge of plumbing and electrical a plus
  • Onsite/on campus presence required to perform the above duties.

Qualifications

  • Strong preference towards possessing HVAC trade expertise
  • Preferred HVAC Maintenance Journey Person
  • Experience work with Collective Bargaining Unit
  • Universal EPA certification preferred but not required
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Good writing skills required.
  • Experience in a higher education or university environment preferred but not required
  • Successful candidate must be self-motivated who can work independently or on a team.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or other appropriate technical area, or combination of technical education, training, and experience. Two or more years of experience managing facilities operations and maintenance staff in an environment with a variety of building types (administrative offices, classrooms, laboratories, residential & dining facilities, auditoriums, etc.).

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial Class C Driver's License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently sitting, perform desk-based computer tasks, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 11-20 pounds.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.
  • Ability to drive day or night.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in engineering or other appropriate technical area, or combination of technical education, training, and experience. Two or more years of experience managing facilities operations and maintenance staff in an environment with a variety of building types (administrative offices, classrooms, laboratories, residential & dining facilities, auditoriums, etc.).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Requires 24-hour response availability seven days per week for emergency situations.
  • May be exposed to noise > 80dB TWA.
  • May working at heights 4 - 10 ft.

WORKING STANDARDS

  • When conducting university business, must comply with California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.

The expected pay range for this position is $151,297 to $179,501 per annum.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
