(Hybrid) Veterans Benefit Director - College of Law
The Veterans Advocacy Law Clinic at the West Virginia University College of Law seeks a fellow to start on or after October 1, 2025. The Fellow position is a two-year appointment with the opportunity for reappointment based on performance and funding availability.
The Clinic represents veterans and their dependents with access to Benefits earned through service to our country. The Clinic represents veterans throughout West Virginia and the region, with a particular focus on those in rural areas and women veterans. The Clinic enrolls between 6 - 12 law students every semester.
The Fellow will work with the Co-Director of the Clinic to advocate for veterans in Benefits claims that will be geared to prevent homelessness by securing vital benefits. The Fellow will focus VA Disability Benefits claims, including establishing a work flow that enables a maximum number of veterans to receive benefits assistance. Work will include handling of benefits claims. The Fellow will help to supervise law students and will collaborate on outreach efforts into rural communities throughout West Virginia.
The Fellowship will be a non-tenure track and non-faculty staff position. The position will be Hybrid with some on-site responsibilities.

Qualifications
Candidates must possess a JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school and accreditation with the VA to represent Veterans for at least 5 years.
Preference will be given to individuals with experience: advocating on behalf of veterans and West Virginia consumers; representing veterans in VA Benefits claims; supervising students in a clinical setting; supervising VA Claims work; engaging in outreach to low-income and vulnerable populations, especially in rural areas. Applicants should possess exceptional writing skills, strong organizational ability, and a demonstrated commitment to serving the public.
