Description of Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe HyFlex (Hybrid-Flexible) class delivery combines in-person and online learning, giving students the flexibility to choose how they will participate. In a HyFlex course, students can attend in-person, participate synchronously online via video conferencing tools, or engage asynchronously through recorded lectures and digital materials. This approach ensures that students can tailor their learning experience to fit their personal schedules and preferences.
Assistants will support the delivery of Hyflex courses at Fairmont State; and on average will work 10-15 hours per week (usually daytime hours, but may include some evenings).
Key Responsibilities: - Technical Support:
o Trained and proficient in using classroom technology (high-quality cameras, microphones, and projectors); including how to operate video conferencing software and troubleshoot common technical issues.
- Ahead of the class start time, assist with technology setup, troubleshooting as necessary, so that class can begin upon the professors arrival.
During class sessions, ensure that technical issues are addressed quickly, minimizing disruptions to learning. Submit IT requests as necessary. Schedule regular technology checks to prevent technical issues from disrupting learning. 2.
Facilitation Support:During live class sessions, monitor the online chat for questions and/or issues from remote students.
Ensure that remote students can participate in real-time discussions and activities. Support faculty with facilitating discussions and group activities as necessary
Ensure that classes are recorded; confirm that a copy is uploaded to Blackboard
Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications - Enrollment: Must be a current student at Fairmont State University.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in using classroom technology (high-quality cameras, microphones, and projectors); including how to operate video conferencing software and troubleshoot common technical issues. Training can be provided.
- Skills: Strong problem solving skills; able to think on your feet and troubleshoot under pressure; and maintain a calm demeanor in difficult situations.
- Communication: Excellent verbal communication skills; ability to interact professionally with faculty.
- Experience: Previous experience supporting and/or participating in remote presentations (webinars, online classes, Telehealth) is a plus but not required.
- Availability: Flexibility to work during regular business hours and occasionally evenings based upon class schedule.
Special Conditions - Ability to lift and carry materials (up to 25 lbs).
