Position Summary

Position is responsible for assisting with professional aspects of the MRI or Computed Tomography services including protocol patients, scheduling special studies, providing assistance for certain MRI or CT procedures, quality assurance and monitoring. Position also assists with and facilitates communications among radiology attendings, fellows and resident physicians, MRI or CT technologists, referring physicians and their offices, physician extenders and patients.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists with protocoling patients for MRI or CT procedures, obtaining information as necessary to facilitate completion of study in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Serves as a liaison with radiology technologists and radiologists.
  • Answers protocol questions from radiology technologists in an appropriate and timely manner, referring questions to Radiologists as needed.
  • Clarifies orders from referring physicians as needed.
  • Responsible for Pediatrics CT/MRI protocols.
  • Helps manage the turn-around times for radiology examinations so that the reads are performed in accordance with expectations
  • Coordinates issues revolving around elevated creatinine, renal failure and dialysis, including obtaining required patient information in advance of study.
  • Reviews pre-protocol information provided by patient and referring physician’s office. Follows up as needed for additional information prior to study.

Coordinates the scheduling of MRI or CT guided biopsies, special procedures to ensure appropriate information and staff are available at time of procedure.

  • Receives beeper requests for special studies. Obtains required information and confirms appropriateness of request with staff physicians.
  • Schedules special studies in advance obtaining and verifying information in accordance with established protocols.
  • Schedules procedures; coordinating them with the relevant staff physician schedule’s to ensure that the appropriate expertise is available for each special study.

Assists with activities that are the Radiologist’s responsibilities in the performance of MRI or CT scanning.

  • Coordinates request for review of MRI studies done at outside institutions
  • Coordinates reading room worklists for studies performed outside of the medical campus to be read on the medical campus.
  • May coordinate request for review of CT studies done at outside institutions
  • Provides support in the areas such as oral or rectal contrast, contract reaction, endoluminal coil placement, CT cystography and colon insufflations or other special procedures.
  • Populates imaging worklists for conferences.

Assists staff physicians with scheduling and communication issues related to MRI or CT procedures and assists with quality assurance and protocol optimization.

  • Provides preliminary results to referring physician offices upon request.
  • Schedules add-on procedures.
  • Clarifies orders from referring physicians as needed.
  • Requests additional images, reconstructions, etc. from radiology technologists as directed by radiologists.
  • Calls physician offices to report unexpected results as appropriate.
  • Requests additional images, reconstruction, etc. from radiology technologists as directed by staff physicians.
  • Helps in maintaining quality assurance of studies
  • Helps facilitate protocol optimization of sequences.
  • moonlighting case management and distribution as well as payroll tracking
  • Helps serve as a liaison for technical support between radiologists and the IT section at Washington University.

Salary Range

$25.30 - $37.94 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
