The Africana Studies program is especially interested in candidates who can teach any combination of the following upper-level courses: African Women; Political Economy of African Nations; Post Independence Africa; Political Economy of the African American Community; and create courses in any combination of the following areas: African women and political economy; African womanism, African feminism and women’s activism; African/Afrofuturism; women, gender, and pan-Africanism and/or the Black radical tradition; Africana women, girls, and the carceral state; Africana environmental justice; reproductive justice and Africana women’s activism; and potential for African language course development (Medew Neter, Kiswahili, Yoruba, Wolof, Ndebele, etc.). Candidates should also be able to teach sections of Introduction to Africana Studies, with focus on Nile Valley Civilizations and the long African/Black social justice origins and development of the discipline.


The applicant should demonstrate a sound knowledge of African-centered theoretical, epistemological, and methodological perspectives; experience in online and on ground course development and delivery; and a commitment to teach first generation and underrepresented student populations.




Minimum Qualifications:


Ph.D. in Africana/Black Studies, African Studies, or a Ph.D. in a related discipline with at least 18 graduate hours of coursework in Africana/Black Studies. Candidates should include a CV; cover letter which includes teaching philosophy, research statement, names and contact information for three references; unofficial graduate transcripts; writing sample; and sample syllabi.
