Infection Control Nurse
Position Description
Directs and coordinates infection control program in the School of Medicine clinics. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Major/Essential Functions
- Monitors APIC, OSHA, & Ector County Public Health Epidemiology websites for updates on employee health and infection control practices. Communicates education to Senior Director and managers as needed
- Performs, coordinates and facilitates systems audits for campus administration, including clinical, operational, and academic functions with policy/procedure review and /or development to address deficiencies and improve quality, efficiency for delivery of services/processes
- Supports and reviews Infectious Disease Exposure Policy in conjunction with the Section Manager and Director and the Infection Control Committee Chairman
- Daily tracking of HAI's, reportable conditions, exposures, communicable diseases, and LARC compliance
- Provides Infection Prevention education and develops infection prevention competencies.
- Compiles Infection Prevention and Occupational Health compliance reports. Maintains accurate data for internal reporting and public reporting
- Assists clinical staff and providers in all departments in the development and implementation of performance improvement initiatives for Infection prevention. Communicates professionally and effectively any performance initiatives to the Section Manager
- Preparation of agenda items and presentation to the Performance Improvement /Risk Management and Infection Control Committee meetings
- Functions in the capacity of the Employee Health Nurse role. Coordinating vaccines, immunizations, lab titers, Blood Borne pathogen Exposures Protocol per TTUHSC policy
- Manage annual Tuberculin skin test requirements for faculty, staff, residents and students. Place and interpret TST
- Evaluate new hire health information for completeness. Advise on necessary follow-up. Maintain system for notification of vaccination, etc
- Manage TTUHSC immunization program. Provide immunizations as required
Preferred Qualifications
- At least two years experience in infection control, employee health and bloodborne pathogen exposures in a clinical or hospital setting
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Required Qualifications
Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. Current RN license in the State of Texas or the ability to transfer your license to Texas. At least one year of infection control experience and/or training.
